Without spoiling it, there was an ideology behind the plot that I loved, very unique. This is, of course, another take on Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" but it has a cool plot twist that's different than the rest. Great setting. I really enjoyed it. The reader needs to learn how to say "again" because her pronunciation drove me bonkers (you'd be amazed how many times that word is repeated and how annoying it can be when it's pronounced strangely). Also, it's "coleslaw" not "cold slaw."

This was the most pointless, go-nowhere book I've read in recent memory. In a world where Riley Sager, B A. Paris, and Lucy Foley write, this book should hide away in embarrassment.

I couldn't put this book down, and it kept me guessing until the very end! Creepy, unsettling, fabulous until the last minute. The readers were terrific, especially the men, with great depth of emotions. Chef's kiss, highly recommend.

Anna's story told in reverse was a bit difficult to unravel at first and was a bit slow, but it picks up and becomes clearer as the story progresses. There is nothing "feel-good" in this book - it's unsettling, brutal, and very very sad. Nevertheless, it's a tragic story worth reading. I would recommend reading this book with empathy and without judgment (except on the Bolsheviks bc OMG). It might make you hold your loved ones a little closer.

Read, don't listen. Interesting story, abysmal reader, stilted dialogue

I nearly didn't get past hour one because the reader is absolutely awful, and the dialogue between characters was uncomfortably unnatural. The reader sounds like she's reading to a kindergarten class, and character emotion is lackluster at best. I'm sitting, her accents are cringeworthy; her Scottish sounds like Irish.

The story itself is interesting, which is why I stuck with it. The dialogue between characters lacks any semblance of real conversation. It's probably easier to overlook that if you're reading it, but listening to terrible dialogue by a terrible reader, bloody awful.

This is by far my favorite book by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had trouble connecting with characters from other books, but this one has me from the word go. Definitely recommend, but also, have some tissues ready.

I recently discovered Alice Feeney and I'm loving her books. The endings aren't predictable or easily solvable, and there are always several twists. Looking forward to the next!

I've read/listened to a few Lisa Jewell's books, and I've enjoyed them. Most have been psychological suspense until this one. I kept waiting for something impactful to happen and it just didn't. There were several teases - really with every character - but none of them panned out. They all just resolved themselves so *nicely* but not terribly interestingly. Did Lydia's dad kill the baby? Is Bendix taking Lydia for a ride? Is Jack *really* Robyn's brother? Does Maggie end up with Marc? Don't get your hopes up.

First off, I didn't know this was a sequel (my mistake), so a lot of my questions were probably answered in the first book. That aside, I really didn't understand why the Michael/Rachel side story was even necessary to anything. What happened to Finn's mom and sibling? Again, maybe things I'll understand when I read the first book. Most of the narration I liked, but the detective was very robotic in his cadence and often sounded like he was reading. It seemed like this was a deliberate choice by the reader bc it wasn't all like that, but it was an odd affect that was distracting and uncomfortable. But I liked her writing style and am getting the first book to hopefully pull it all together. Wish me luck.

I really enjoyed the story, and even teared up a few times. It's a heartbreaking story of many types of love, betrayal, disappointment, redemption, forgiveness, and the importance of being seen, known, and loved.

HOWEVER... the narrator sounds like she's reading most of the time, making the dialogue sound unnatural and stilted. There was little to no variation among characters' voices. What's the opposite of dynamic? This was it.
