Historia
Iris Nightingale is more than okay. She has her life planned out to a perfect schedule. Work, run, sleep, repeat. She spends her quiet Friday nights sitting alone on a bench in the park, trying to push back the memories that no amount of running can help her escape. But one evening, there’s someone else on her bench - Hunter. Tall, wry and infuriating: everything about him gets under Iris’s skin. Little does she know that he's about to upset more than just her routines...

How did the Audible AI choose this for me?
Revisado: 06-13-24
Female drivel, but one smart enough to be an aerospace engineer apparently. Not a glimmer of reality to be found in this Harlequin Romance. I am sure there is a vast audience that would love this book, but how did it get on my recommended list?!

It’s the podcast version of Fire Starter told while running a half marathon. For me, it worked. Fun with minimal investment!

Aaron Fortin is new in town. He drives a brand-new Acura—a gift from his parents for uprooting him in the middle of senior year. Showing up on his first day at the local public school in that nice of a car? He knows he’ll never blend in, and he doesn’t care to try. The car, the new-kid mystique, he can use all that.... Crystal Giordano carpools to the same school in her friend Trevor’s beat-up van. In the van along with Crystal and Trevor are Paul, Harmony, and Gayle. Crystal’s technically part of their misfit group, but most of the time, she feels like she’s the only one who doesn’t fit.

Loved this one!
Revisado: 11-09-23
A gripping and imaginable dilemma for our very tech savvy youth. This is a modern day Clockwork Orange that has me watching my own teen for “influenced” behavior. The story is great. The performances, so believable. And the message…that, for all our possible avenues of personal interaction, we are more disconnected than ever.

With deadlines looming, Joe heads to a nearby nursing home to find a willing subject. There he meets Carl Iverson, and soon nothing in Joe's life is ever the same. Carl is a dying Vietnam veteran-and a convicted murderer. With only a few months to live, he has been medically paroled to a nursing home after spending thirty years in prison for the crimes of rape and murder.

A surprisingly good listen!
Revisado: 11-03-23
At first, I was disappointed in the depth of the story. After all a college student interviewing a convicted murderer on his deathbed could go in many directions exploring deeply held prejudices. The exceptional narration keeps it rolling along pleasantly enough and some sections truly paint a picture (like the outfit constructed of hip waders and couch stuffing). Then I decided to listen as though this really were an account given by a college student for a required writing class and that made the whole thing much more promising. Like reading a first essay of now well published author, a bit wobbly because they haven’t quite got their feet under them yet. In the hands of a more masterful writer it might have been a fuller story, but then it might be just a story.

Hard to listen to without blaming the victim.
Revisado: 07-12-23
The victims in this suffered immensely without a doubt. However, hearing of the cost of a young woman’s wonder lust to everyone else in this story is a first world problem that generates very little sympathy from me. I once wondered around my home country telling all I was orphaned so that my bad decisions didn’t become my parents problems. The world is a wonderful and dangerous place that you should not go to unless you’re prepared to be accountable for every step and misstep taken.
Having said all that, I would be more than willing to pull the trigger in the firing squad on her kidnappers.

It has already been said in other reviews that this book is a down cycle of Odd Thomas. I listened to it twice just to see if I missed something. Sadly, no.

I can honestly say it left me wanting more, more of his old stuff like Dark Rivers of the Heart or One Door away from Heaven. Sorry Dean, but this is like a remix of songs that were never popular.

So it’s no Grisham, but there are moments that have you cheering on the home team. I enjoyed the portrayal of life in a Midwest town where people grow up and build a life. The spare no expense out of town law firm is overdone and the trial outcome unbelievable. A good editor could do a lot for this author.

Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

With the right editor this could be a thrilling modern take on a Gothic theme. Sadly, Mary Shelley she isn’t. The narrator kept me listening though, and that is saying something!
