I have liked all of Mark Goodwin’s books, and this one has been no exception. I appreciate the way he writes compelling narratives, weaves in character-appropriate challenges, situation-specific obstacles and adventures, and he doesn’t hold back on how bad things can get in a spiritual or physical sense without also painting grossly specific descriptions and narratives. The narrator also does a great job. Love this book and series, so far!

The writing is pretty good for a space battle “epic” with significant pulp fiction overtones minus the bawdy scenes so prevalent in modern writing. The narration is also quite good. I recommend it.

Mark’s books have always been favorites of mine. I’ve literally listened to them all several times. This new type of storyline is very different from Mark’s other books, but it is a new favorite of mine. The new narrator, Joe Geoffrey, did a really good job, too. I was really frustrated that Mark’s previous narrators both decided they wouldn’t do readings for Christian novels anymore without getting a profit-sharing agreement with the author, but Mark has found a really good replacement in Joe Geoffrey, it would seem. I can’t wait for the next book!

The story is reasonably well thought out, and the fast pace at which the author moves the narrative along makes for an engrossing listen. The narrator‘s performance is also exceptional, and I like how each character has a distinct voice. While some of the interactions between characters seems a bit perfunctory, most of the time the interactions seem fairly natural.

My favorite books from Mark Goodwin are his Days of Noah and Days of Elijah series, so I was very surprised at how much I liked these latest end times books. They’re definitely different from the other series, with more action packed into the story.

The performance by Kevin Pierce is awesome, as always. He gives subtle differentiation between characters, but he doesn’t get caught up in the performance to the cost of telling the story.

It’s been a real ride watching Vega go from a man of the world to a man of faith and character. Great start to this first installment of a follow-up series to the original one, The Beginning of Sorrows.

This book does not have as many original elements as the previous two installments of the series, but it wraps up storylines from both first books nicely. All in all, it is a pretty good book.

Mark Goodwin’s third installment of his Black Swan trilogy is a fast-paced series of victories and setbacks for his impetuous hero-in-the-making, Shane Black. This is a no-holds-barred glimpse of how bad things could easily become in post US America. Better yet is that there’s no bad language or depictions of sex scenes.

This particular Mark Goodwin novel he is a bit shorter than his previous works, but it is a real page-turner. If you like Mark Goodwin’s other books, he will probably like this one as well. The story is fast-paced catch and somewhat more believable than some of his other stories, in certain ways. A good book overall, but a great audiobook with Kevin pierces wonderful performance.
