enough already
Revisado: 03-14-25
overall the story was everything I hoped it would be. that said I foolishly hoped there would actually be an ending. 8 books in and they were still good. the ham fisted way this story ends is annoying and insulting. it feels like the author just could not let go. it was great right until the end. honestly disappointed
narration is a soild 10 out of 10

Historia
Bruce Silver is the author of the Riftbreaker novels, one of the most popular, beloved fantasy book series of all time. He's got everything he's ever dreamed of having: freedom to tell the stories he wants to tell, legions of enthusiastic fans who wait eagerly to see what he'll write next, and a really nice car. But despite all that, Bruce finds himself dissatisfied, battling an ennui he can't quite put his finger on. So he decides to do what anyone would do in his situation: burn it all down by unexpectedly killing off Carpathian Einzgear, Riftbreaker's cherished hero.

Its pretty ok. Far from great
Revisado: 11-10-24
There is a story somewhere in all the fluff and pauses for effect. I like the premise but after 20 hours of the main character refusing to believe the reality he is facing it stops being a plot point or foible of the main and becomes an annoyance, displeasure, exasperation, irritation. Which brings me to my second point. I congratulate the author on finding thesarus.com but enough is enough. Using multiple words to describe, define, depict, detail, portray became tedious and transitions into annoying, aggravating, irritating. I really wanted to love this book. It brings an interesting and unique spin on the genre but between my previous points and the overdone narration by the end all I could muster was tolerance. I had invested enough time I had to find out what cliff hanger this was going to end on. If you want a time killer, this book will do. If you want and engaging story look elsewhere.

Glad for a new book
Revisado: 12-05-23
I am not new to Nathan Lowell books. I have been listening since he was also doing the narration. With that said this book is hands down the slowest trip to nowhere he has taken us on. While I understand setting the stage for acts to come. Being completely honest the contents of this book could have been boiled down to a third of what it was and still been considered long winded. Given the pacing of this book I would not be surprised if the next is only provisioning the ship. I hope Im wrong but considering this book was 7 hours of meetings I would not be surprised. ALL of that said I will continue to listen to Sars stories because once he gets going they are very enjoyable.

Historia
Well, this year, after the Spring Planting season, I’m really gonna relax and put down roots. It’s the slow life for me. Sure, the talking animals and cultivators coming to live with me are a bit weird, but this year everything is gonna be basically normal. There definitely won’t be any Heavenly Tribulations, ancient formations, or cultivator issues to deal with . . .

kind of a let down
Revisado: 04-13-23
After the first book I could not wait for this one. Now that it is here I am disappointed. This is short stories about any and all characters that happen to cross the path of the protagonist. Sadly this book was like the airport tram. Fun if you have time to kill but ultimately goes nowhere.

not bad but could have been better.
Revisado: 03-08-22
Minor spoilers ahead.
I dont know how I would say it differently so I wont. Penta was not in the first book all that long and was annoying the whole time. To be coming back to that character when more substantial characters are in a similar situation feels like trying to force an idea that is just not working out. At this point I hope the character is revived in a substantial way so she can then be killed again. Beyond that it is not a bad book, it could have been great.

underwhelming
Revisado: 04-27-21
I would have thought a story this long would have gone somewhere. I was wrong. A couple of small twists and a wide open ending make the book fall flat. I'm ok with some unresolved issues but no resolution makes it feel like the author is singing me along just to sell another book. As always the narrator was great.
