Historia
For two centuries, the deep-seated fear that many White people feel—of losing power, of losing economic standing, of losing a particular “way of life”—has been the driving force behind American politics and culture. And as we approach a future where White people will become a racial minority in the US, something estimated to occur as early as 2043, that fear is only intensifying, festering, and becoming more visible. Are we destined for a violent clash? What can we do to step into our country’s inevitable future, without tearing ourselves apart in the process?

History and intellectual pros of author/reader
Revisado: 02-09-24
Dislike Roland Martin as a reader/storyteller. However the historical research material Martin organized was authentic and compelling enough, I believe, to show white America what they fear is of their own making.

Historia
Welcome to the summer of 1985 in Philadelphia, when the city was rocked—in almost every sense of the word—by two unprecedented events: Mayor W. Wilson Goode’s May 13 decision to bomb the headquarters of MOVE, a controversial Philadelphia-based radical communal organization, and the July 13 Live Aid concert, where international rock royalty convened in Philly to raise money for victims of the Ethiopian famine. Separated by just two months and eight miles, these events would showcase both the best and the worst of the so-called City of Brotherly Love.

All Jokes Aside…
Revisado: 11-02-22
Kevin Hart’s narration of Summer of ‘85 was surprisingly compelling! …a masterful rendering by a comic to whom I had not given serious credit as a voice for activism.
While starting off a bit too “Kevinique” in his rhythmic, almost lyrical, speedy and comical tones, I began to enjoy and appreciate his style of delivery and the juxtaposition of several historic events uniquely erased from the African American experience were brilliantly told. All jokes aside, K Hart brings it!

Amazing Grace!
Revisado: 10-29-22
Dearly Beloveds - our own modern-day Griots, Journalists, Activits, Historians, and Storytellers are doing an Amazing job inspiring richer, deeper intrigue into our collective experiences in the telling of "Till." Intrigue that I hope will inspire a fuller grasp of American justice for [G]enerations of JAHS to come. The Grace inspired by "Til" makes possible, the seemingly impossible. We have permission to tell our truths. In the telling of "Till", our eyes are opened and the doors are open for future Griots to continue to brand the Black American experience and what equal justice under the law does or doesn't look like. These are our stories and we certainly applaud you for excercising your right to tell it like it is! Amazing!

Historia
Few journalists working today have covered Donald Trump more extensively than Maggie Haberman. And few understand him and his motivations better. Now, demonstrating her majestic command of this story, Haberman reveals in full the depth of her understanding of the 45th president himself, and of what the Trump phenomenon means.

Wake The Dead
Revisado: 10-26-22
Several writers, maybe even liberals on the subject of POTUS, by all accounts agree on the copious characteristic opaqueness of O’45 the man. Non before Maggie Haberman did fully convey to my understanding, the level of impact a mobster celeb of our own choosing, would have on the institution of President and plague,-like disease O’45 would place on our country.
Maggie’s voluminous and detailed collections of classic O’45 rhetoric revealed the origins of the disease like I’d never read before. Inner feelings and memories of my own emerged, of personal relationships gone asunder thanks to O’45.
Haberman connected so many dots that I had either forgotten or never conceived would be possible to O’45. The level of detail she provided about the ‘old guard in Queens, Al Sharpton, Mike Tyson, O’45 use of language, “the Blacks” and the BLM movement. All amazing recollections.
I nearly died laughing about her notes when O’45 criticized Don King’s well known bad breath All Brilliant retelling of stories…griot style!
Maggie Haberman’s very pointed stylized audio and soup to nuts expose’ of the ideology-less former President, had me mesmerized. I binged to get to the next chapter, and on to the next nearly without pause.
Maggie described a visual for what had to have been how he was shaped. Her delivery solidified the opinion that I had and her narration of it confirmed what I knew to be true…above all else, America loved great comic entertainment and sad but true, that he was.
Haberma’s narration of Confidence Man is not only great entertainment but fact-checked, historic references to a time before the MAGA movement and will surely wake the dead. I hung on every word
Peace, Donya Maria
