Having read every book on the history of pirates and piracy that I can get my hands on since a youth, I've never come across a more exciting, flowing, and detailed Narrative of the Caribbean pirates then Colin Woodards, the Republic of the Pirates. From its opening lines till it's very last sentence, it is a fantastic and colorful and complete narrative of a time of this world's history that every person alive today wishes they could open a window and peer into. Colin Woodard gives us the key to open that window and does so brilliantly on every page and in full development of every character... even the minor players who are given Flesh instead of just skull and bones. no wonder other authors, who write about the Golden Age of piracy, refer to this book and this author as the Premier Source. I very rarely ever read a book twice, but I will start listening to this one again on Audible immediately. thank you Commodore Woodard or commanding this most impressive Fleet.

Eric Dolin does an admiral job in the research telling and weaving of the many tales of the most famous to the most obscure North American Pirates during the Golden Age of piracy. This book is a great companion piece, as the author himself relates in the last chapter, too many other works discussing this time period and dubious occupation...and the effect of pirates and piracy upon the new world. My only regret is that, despite the great detail of many of the stories, he leaves out the name of the pirate who served under Henry Avery, John Dann, who is my direct ancestor and the pirate who was discovered in England that led to the undoing of many of the other Pirates of Henry Avery's Expedition. overall, any student of pirate or Maritime history will greatly enjoy this fast-moving story and the many detailed and historical accounts of the time and culture of a burgeoning America that are woven throughout it. Highly Rec-Arrrr-mended!!

a very deeply researched and well-presented work on the history of colonialism in North America. The author does a fantastic job of keeping this story moving, feeling more like a novel unfolding than a history book. I highly recommend it for the Casual to intermediate student of North American history, Native peoples history, or Colonial expansion history. Many aspects of the globe are covered in the struggle for the colonial powers to subjugate and profit from new lands, but the author does so without being judgmental and gives a clear picture of what life was like in the preceding centuries on this continent.

Well narrated, well organized and well researched lecture series on the largely unknown or little known peoples of ancient North America. Some of the dating is admittedly conjecture, but the story line of these "lost civilations" is intact and well woven.

this is one of the best, if not the best retellings of the historical. Of the 17th century, not only from a world stage perspective but specifically the rowdy and Old West like era of the West Indies and the Caribbean. Any student of this historical time., piracy, Tales of Adventure, or anyone with pirates in their bloodline needs to read this book. it is one of the most complete & encompassing tomes of the golden age of privaterrs and Pirates that is available anywhere. Read this book or walk the plank

Martin Dugard does an amazing job as he does in all of his books, of weaving the truth of some of History's most compelling stories into a "can't put it down" book of proportions just as epic as the topic at covers. This adventure in particular has long needed this in-depth and complete of a telling, No Holds Barred, every detail put in, regardless of the myth surrounding it...and what is left is one of the greatest books on the exploration of Africa to come out in the last 100 years

The author has some extremely important things to say for 21st century New Testament Christians who have bought themselves down in a series of theologies for the past thousand years without looking at the true meaning of the cross of Jesus. The Reawakening of what the crucifixion of Jesus really meant for mankind and all of God's creation is an important discussion that none of us should shy away from. In his many theories and long drawn-out discourses on the history of mankind and different ideas and thoughts about forgiveness, the nature of God, and being in a new vocation to God, the author spares nothing and giving his opinion on what the Pagan World means verse what God had planned all along. The place where his arguments become tenuous, is in assuming that just because some idea can be found somewhere in Pagan worship or folklore, that precludes it from ever being a similar situation or idea or thought in God's plan for mankind. we can agree is Christian's that because God created the Earth to work a certain way and created all the elements to work together that they are certain truths and ideas and theories they will always point back directly to God, whether man thinks he originated them or whether they came from the mouth or pen of an inspired Ryder or profit in the New or Old Testament. the author does an extremely good job of pointing out the importance of baptism into Jesus Christ, as much more than the ritual or outward sign that many in the last 200 years have tried to make it out to be. for this year's to be commended because many authors especially popular ones are not courageous enough to tackle this subject and show where it fits in God's plan from the beginning for the Salvation of his world and those that are called by vocation to rule over that world in the likeness of God. if you have 16 hours and can devote it all to concentrating on the words and theories of this book then I recommend it, if you are looking for a simple read to back up good feelings of positive New Testament preaching, then there are other much shorter and fluffy or books that you can spend your time on. I look forward to reading other works by this author, and hope to catch a series of lessons or seminars where I can discuss some of these important topics and issues with him in person.

Greg Boyd hits it on the head

nNot unlike his book, Myth of a Christian Nation, in mMyth of a Christian Religion, Greg Boyd hits the topics hard that need to be hit, especially in our affluent Western culture and United States of America urface-skimming religions. Greg Boyd go goes straight to the source by using scripture and biblical details that are historically accurate and relevant to paint a picture of the true religion of the heart that Christ established.. versus how far down we have slid in 21st century America. Each chapter is timely, to the point and well-done and includes an action guide for small group study that opens up some very useful, relevant, and much-needed conversation among those claiming to be followers of the true gospel of Christ. Although at times it seems that Greg Boyd is a little sketchy on a return of Christ for some fantasy earthly reign and what exactly that looks like...topics that Christ himself speaks about in both Matthew and Luke, the rest of the text seems scripturally sound and backed up buy verses and themes that are common and relevant in the New Testament. I recommend this book for anyone who is trying to break out of the mold of dumbed-down Western Christian thought, and the illness that is killing the once Vivid and alive gospel of Christ in our country.

Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes Audiolibro Por Brandon J. O'Brien, E. Randolph Richards arte de portada

a great premise that often gets muddled

The premise of this work is a very necessary discussion that needs to happen especially among Western Christians, but in working to lay down their various theses, oftentimes the authors will either contradict what they had said in earlier chapters by making sweeping generalities or will leave the reader wondering if these men are more attuned to a deist theology or an active God theology. Although there is a lot of in-depth research, much of it badly needed in Christian writing today, there is still too much personal opinion based on the life experiences of these two authors and as they warned us to "not go too far in one direction to overcorrect another," they themselves end up doing that in many instances. I was encouraged to read the scriptures with more open eyes, but let the reader take the personal opinions of these authors with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to God's active participation and each of our individual lives.
