Having done field work in New Guinea for more than 30 years, Jared Diamond presents the geographical and ecological factors that have shaped the modern world. From the viewpoint of an evolutionary biologist, he highlights the broadest movements both literal and conceptual on every continent since the Ice Age, and examines societal advances such as writing, religion, government, and technology.

Describes the backbone of human history
Revisado: 05-30-20
Decided to read this before diving into Sapiens. It is very densely packed with knowledge. Describes how humans have spread throughout our world starting with the very beginning. Goes into much detail with topics such as food production, trade, and literacy, etc. It also describes the rise and fall of societies and how that has led us to where were are today. Perhaps better read than listened to. Nevertheless it is a must read for anyone in interested or in involved with the fields of history and science.

We're all noobs in our own way
Revisado: 05-29-20
But with this book you can become a little bit less of a noob. Nobody wants to be the guy running late to the boat. Or the guy who forgets his dive mask after getting all the way out to the dive spot. Or the guy who has to edit 3 hours of raw gopro footage. Or the guy who code browns you from upcurrent. Or the guy who turns his best mate into a human shishkebab due to poor trigger discipline. Do yourself and solid and buy this work of noob art.

You might have trouble imagining life without your social media accounts, but virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier insists that we’re better off without them. In his important new audiobook, Lanier, who participates in no social media, offers powerful and personal reasons for all of us to leave these dangerous online platforms behind before it’s too late. Lanier remains a tech optimist, so while demonstrating the evil that rules social media business models today, he also envisions a humanistic setting for social networking that can direct us towards richer and fuller way of living and connecting.

A good message
Revisado: 04-08-20
Always tough to take advice from a white guy with dreadlocks,, but overall very good message with supportive details. I think everyone should read. Part of it comes off a little bit like the author was just upset that his preferred candidate didn't win the 2016 election, but still provides good points for why social media may have influenced it. Social media has definitely has taken over most people's lives and without a doubt it would be healthy to take a step back and delete your accounts, just for a while at least. Don't freak out, but Google is watching you 🧐

Historia
In Everthing Is F*cked, Mark Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.
