Historia
An award-winning writer re-imagines the life of Jesus, from the points of view of four people closest to him before his death. This is the story of Yehoshuah, who wandered Roman-occupied Judea giving sermons and healing the sick. Now, a year after his death, four people tell their stories. His mother grieves, his friend Iehuda loses his faith, the High Priest of the Temple tries to keep the peace, and a rebel named Bar-Avo strives to bring that peace tumbling down.

A very cool take

I love the historicity of this book and the way the stories weave together. It’s very well done, and a great look at the period.

Historia
With the failure of Hadley's Hope, Weyland-Yutani has suffered a devastating setback - the loss of the Aliens they aggressively sought to exploit. Yet there's a reason the Company has risen to the top of the food chain. True to form, they have a redundancy already in place: the facility known as "The Cold Forge". Remote station RB-232 has become their greatest asset in weaponizing the Xenomorphs. However, when Dorian Sudler is sent to RB-232 to assess their progress, he discovers that there's a spy aboard - someone who doesn't necessarily act in the company's best interests.

A Legitimately Good Book
Revisado: 05-22-21
I’m burning my way through the whole Alien franchise on Audible, and while I’ve enjoyed several, this has been the one that I think most holds up without the franchise attachment. It’s a good book on its own legs, with one of the better-written unlikeable protagonists I’ve encountered in a while. And on top of that, it’s a great Alien title that adds to the canon while respecting it.

A Lovely Third Entry
Revisado: 06-05-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would, have, and will again. While I still think the first book is so far the best in the series, the first book is -also- one of my favorite books I've ever read, so it's a bit of an unfair comparison. This book is incredibly clever, and while it is very funny, it is also a touching story. It also brings back the author as the narrator, which is -fantastic-.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two?
One of the most memorable moments is when the yeti punches the car on the moon and the events immediately ensuing. Seriously though- do you need to hear more than that, in this book (with a touching and well-crafted story), a yeti punches a car on the moon? Isn't that -alone- enough to get you interested?
Which character – as performed by Catherynne M. Valente – was your favorite?
I love September to death. It's hard between her, Saturday, and A-L, but I think September wins out.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There's a good one at the end, but in lieu of that because of spoilers, I'll pick the one when September meets her younger self. I really liked that moment- it was a neat connection, and really nicely encapsulated September's deep wishes.
Any additional comments?
This whole series is fantastic- the author is simply amazing, both as an author and as a narrator. I am very glad she came back for this book after not narrating the second, and I hope she continues. She is a really gifted writer- very clever without being pretentious.

September is a girl who longs for adventure. When she is invited to Fairyland by a Green Wind and a Leopard, well, of course she accepts. (Mightn’t you?) But Fairyland is in turmoil, and it will take one 12-year-old girl, a book-loving dragon, and a strange and almost human boy named Saturday to vanquish an evil Marquess and restore order.

This Book is Absolutely -Incredible-.
Revisado: 06-05-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making to be better than the print version?
I'm going to give a guarded 'yes,' on the grounds that having the author narrate worked out -beautifully-. She has a the perfect voice for this series, and I really think that hearing it as she thinks of it adds flavor that the print edition couldn't possibly have. That said, I'm sure some of the verbal play is more apparent in the written edition.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making?
The discussion of Queen Mallow's history. I adamantly refuse to spoil it further, but this was one of the most moving sequences I've listened to in an audiobook.
What about Catherynne M. Valente’s performance did you like?
Everything. Absolutely everything. My favorite thing, if I'm getting specific, is the inflection she puts on 'no' at times. That sounds silly, but it really helped sell the character for me. The whole performance is -fantastic- though.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. I found excuses to take long walks at work and listen to this book.
Any additional comments?
This is a book I recommend to my friends -and- will absolutely read to my children. I don't know that I have -ever- found another book that hits both of those notes quite so well. It is incredibly clever, legitimately moving, and terribly imaginative. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy.

This Whole Series is Fantastic
Revisado: 06-05-15
Would you listen to The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There again? Why?
I would absolutely listen to this book again- the storytelling and humor are -great-. I absolutely love this whole series. While I would say this is the weakest of the three I've listened to, all three books are fantastic- this one being the weakest is just a testament to how great the others are.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There?
I think the most memorable moment for me is the moment September comes face-to-face with Halloween for the first time. It's a great moment.
Which scene was your favorite?
Probably the scene where September comes face-to-face with Halloween for the first time. It's just a great scene.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This book didn't have the kind of impact the first one did, which was kind of the problem I had with it. The ending act was still great though, and I'd say when September makes her final decision concerning Halloween was pretty moving.
Any additional comments?
The narrator they got for this one simply isn't as good as the author was in my opinion. She grew on me over time, but I was pleased to hear the author come back for the third book.

Historia
Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

A well-written, fantastically well-narrated story.
Revisado: 03-13-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Golem and the Jinni to be better than the print version?
The narrator was incredible, so yes, I think the narrated version has to be superior to the print version, though both are very good.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Golem and the Jinni?
One of my very favorite moments in the story is the moment the Golem first meets the Jinni. It's such a great illustration of their different characters, and you can really feel the fascination with encountering something so foreign, yet so similar to themselves.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene is probably when the two come back together again. I hesitate to give too much detail because of spoilers, but when the Golem reunites with the Jinni and the time directly proceeding that is just an awesome moment.
Any additional comments?
I have been slowly and steadily building my library primarily with books I already know and wanted to listen to. This book by itself has completely changed that strategy: it is a book I had never heard of, and it is easily my favorite book in my entire library. I'll be much more adventurous going forward, all because of how fantastic this book is.
