Historia
In the year 1012 England’s Norman-born Queen Emma has been 10 years wed to an aging, ruthless, haunted King Æthelred. The marriage is a bitterly unhappy one, between a queen who seeks to create her own sphere of influence within the court and a suspicious king who eyes her efforts with hostility and resentment. But royal discord shifts to grudging alliance when Cnut of Denmark, with the secret collusion of his English concubine Elgiva, invades England at the head of a massive viking army.

I loved how the author was as historically authentic as possible adding her own creativity where it was invited.

Historia
Richard Rohr leads us through the social, political and environmental setting out of which Matthew brought Christ’s radical message of a new world order. He explains Matthew’s challenge to let go of the conventional wisdom that comes with contemporary American culture. Each of seven talks brings us closer to the heart of the Sermon.

What did you love best about Sermon on the Mount?
Father Rohr gives us a valuable insight to the context/times/culture that Jesus was teaching and clears up what we have either lost in translation or simply do not understand because of the language and major time barrier/gap.
What other book might you compare Sermon on the Mount to and why?
The Art of Letting Go
What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His inflections. You can hear him smile and he drives home the points wonderfully.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It brought me closer to an understanding of God, Jesus, as I seek enlightenment.
