I'm not a fan of Mystery Books, but I enjoyed this one. A professor conducting psychological studies of her students? What's not to like? The story had flow, intrigue, and an extra helping of special interest in the form of the protagonist's specialty, forensic handwriting analysis. But for all her expertise at it, she never saw the murderer coming, and neither did I. Interesting story.

First of all, this book needs a new Publisher's Summary. Seriously? The book blurb gives away the very secret that takes half the book to find out!

The concept of the book was well thought out and interesting. It's difficult to write a book with a lot of characters and author did a reasonably good job of creating some dimension for most of them. The reader of the audiobook, Nikki Zakocs, got better as she went along, but was a little monotone throughout. The area I thought needed the most work, was the dialogue. Cudney needs to read his dialogue aloud as he writes, and check to hear if it sounds realistic. Lots of it felt stiff and unnatural, especially if one is listening to an audiobook. Family members don't talk to each like that.

The story is good, even though I saw it coming. But the grammar was atrocious!

Look, I get that not everyone paid attention in English class, but own it and get yourself a good editor, like me, who knows what part of speech follows a preposition and understands that "her and I" must never, ever be uttered or written. By the way, I'm available to edit your next book, Mr. Soule. Please don't publish another thing without editing, or if you did use an editor, please fire him or her immediately.
