Beautiful Story
Revisado: 12-31-23
Any of us gals that grew up in a family that vacationed every summer in Edisto can appreciate this book. The story offered romance, messy circumstances, sisterhood, the binds that bound us in the south. I loved it.

Historia
For years, Becky had known about the rumors of corruption and crime surrounding the Murdaugh family. These accusations came and went, nothing sticking long enough to bring clarity or a clear conviction. Becky had also known of good deeds done by the Murdaughs. She was there when Randolph Murdaugh received the Order of the Palmetto, the highest honor bestowed on a civilian by the governor of South Carolina. What she didn’t know was that Richard Alexander “Alex” Murdaugh was capable of murdering his own wife and son.

Eh, Not a bit Awestruck
Revisado: 12-31-23
The book was her experience through her perspective. I expected at least a few moments of introspection from it. She name dropped public figures as her new best friends. Leaving content of interest and value nonexistent.

Life can be a beautiful mess. That’s my takeaway. His life was much bigger than one would assume. He spread laughter, love and life to millions of others. He will be remembered as an incredible human who craved the same things as the rest of us. Love, to feel good and live comfortably in his own skin.

Innocence behind bars is far more common than the average person knows. This book was a good look into the realities and challenges of freeing innocent people from prison.

Corruption doesn't happen by accident. It's groomed to exist...Caroline Giammanco enters the seedy world of prison. Death threats, retaliation, and corruption become the backdrop of her life, when she spends two-and-a-half years working within the dark underbelly of a maximum-security men's prison. The dangers lurking inside the death fences force her to embark on a journey from naïve school teacher to whistleblower and political activist, after she finds the most dangerous threats come from those we count on to protect us.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It takes a lot of courage to speak up and tell the truth against potentially dangerous people. Corruption bleeds shamelessly in the prison industry. This book tells a story of prison employee misfits, abuses of power, internal criminal activities, harassment and workplace bullying. Oh yeah, and a love story. Great read!
