Well, that was underwhelming. Trade Me has been on my TBR for quite some time now, so I was excited to finally get around to reading it. I was pulled in from the cover and the tropes in the synopsis. Interracial relationship and rich guy, poor girl? I was sold! Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the expectations I planned for it.

I can blame my expectations for part of it. I went in expecting a cute romance. This story tackled more serious topics and I was unaware of that. Don’t misunderstand, there’s nothing wrong with that. I just wasn’t aware and had to put myself in a different mind frame if that makes sense.

As far as characters go, Blake and Tina were okay. I never really connected with them but continued to read anyway. Tina did annoy me with her back and forth. I felt like she kept coming up with the same excuses not to be with Blake but only after she kept pulling him back in. I get that she was scared to fall in love but relationships are scary. They require work and it won’t always be easy.

I didn’t like the serious topics were held. It’s hard to explain without spoiling it. However, I felt as if the issues were swept under the rug and not really dealt with. I wanted there to be more of an ending.
.
All in all, I just wanted a bit more from this one. I was let down by the characters and how some of the issues were handled. As far as finishing the series goes, I don’t think I will be. I wasn’t wowed and I don’t care enough about the characters to read anymore.

I was expecting to like this one so much more than I did! I have been hearing nothing but great things about Pucked since I started reviewing books but for some reason, I just never read it. This book dragged for me!! Seriously, I felt like I achieved something for making it all the way through.

Let me start off by saying that Violet never grew on me. She was rash and immature. For a while, I was wondering if she was interested in Alex as a person or just for sex. This girl went on and on about his manhood without really anything about Alex. She was quick to jump to conclusions. COMMUNICATION! I feel like she needed a lesson in that. So much of the drama could have been taken care of if she had just talked to him.

Alex was a big teddy bear and I could understand the appeal of him. That’s not to say he didn’t make mistakes because he did! I really wish he could have pulled his head out of his butt earlier than he did though. I really did enjoy the way he pursued Violet. He pursued her the way every woman should be. The thing that I liked about Alex the most was the way that he always asked for consent anytime him and Violet were together.

As far as plot wise, it’s just nothing special. Sex, conflict, sex, conflict, and etc. I feel like I’m not even exaggerating either! We know I’m ALL for sexy scenes, but after a while, it gets a bit repetitive to read about. I kept waiting for something else to happen between them besides that, but we only got glimpses of them actually doing things outside of the bedroom together.
Also, I was so tired of reading about the beaver references and the nicknames for his manhood. Goodness gracious!

All in all, this book was a bit of a letdown for me. However, I’m still going to give the rest of the series a try. Maybe it’s one of those situations where the first book wasn’t okay but the other books will be great? We will see!

So Cadaver & Queen is sort of Victor Frankenstein retelling. To be honest, I saw the cover and thought the plot was similar to SJTR so I gave it shot. While it didn’t become my favorite book of all time, it did have its moments.

Our story is centered around Elizabeth Lavenza as she is the first female medical student in Ingold. Ingold is also making mechanized cadavers called Bio-Mechanicals.

»Elizabeth: She didn’t see why she had to choose between being a doctor and being a wife someday. She was a woman before her time in wanting to go against the life that she was told she should want.

»Victor: I loved him. Should I say more? So much wrong had been done to victor that I was amazed that he was still as pure as he was. He didn’t let being a Bio-Mechanical hold him back from finding himself again or love.

I was sold on their relationship very early on in this book. While these two were different on the outside, they were very similar on the inside. Both of them were stubborn and shared a love of learning. There were some swoon worthy moments between these two that left me smiling.

Besides the romance, it seems like everything else fell a little flat for me. The best way I can describe this book is to call it SJTR without the humor and more on the scientific side. There were A TON of medical terms that seemed to take away from the story while you were reading. Hell, I had to keep searching some of the terms just so I could picture everything correctly.

Now don’t get me wrong. The world she built around having Bio- Mechanicals was great. I just don’t feel like everything was executed well.

By the end, all of my questions weren’t answered and I was left a bit unsatisfied. There is a book two but it looks to be Agatha. Hopefully, we get some drop-ins from Elizabeth and Victor!
