Historia
The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul-de-sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again. Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night.

Narrator made every sentence sound mad or sarcastic. The story was solid throughout, but then hastily wrapped up.

Historia
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Gripping story. Brace yourself for hearing the Sony Walkman called a “Walk Man” numerous times. Excellent narration regardless.

The female narrator :-(
Revisado: 04-10-23
The female narrator adds syllables (like loud huhhh or uhhh breath noises) to the ends of hundreds of words and really hits the “t” and “ck” sounds hard.
Example (room-uhh, stairs-uhh).
Maybe it’s just me, but it unsettled me throughout the listen.

Read the print version
Revisado: 12-07-21
The narrator was beyond over the top with the performance. Get ready for caricatures instead of characters. It really did not do justice to the original text. Please read the print version—unless you want to roll your eyes about 100 times while listening.

Revisado: 09-18-21
This book held my interest & the details about the cult’s beliefs were spare. The narrator was overall pleasant, but I grew tired of the “t”s not being pronounced. It was distracting.
The story was well done. On the whole a good read.

Excellent
Revisado: 11-16-20
I bought both the print and audio version because I couldn’t pass up hearing Arden read her own story.
I’m perplexed by any review that claims she used her town for fodder. All you need to do is actually read the book to see Arden is clearly proud to be from LC and holds it and its inhabitants in high regard.
Arden has stories you cannot miss. She’s led a unique life, and leads us through all the highs and lows with poise, charm, and humor.

Heed the description
Revisado: 09-06-18
The book description tells you what you probably would have preferred knowing before listening to the whole book.
The writing is great save for the “twist” or “rabbit hole” as described.
Narrators are lovely as always. Overall it’s a good read, and could have been great if it hadn’t cheated. Which is what it feels like.

Historia
Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

Narrator upsetting
Revisado: 07-02-18
The material itself was very interesting to me. However, the narrator had a strange way of reading. She sounded like she had pebbles in her mouth and over enunciated yet somehow also mispronounced words. The inflection did not follow the action of the story, and she seemed to not have any connection to the material at all. There was also a shortage of silence between sentences, and mic pops or audio splices that should have been removed in editing.
I could not finish because I could not follow the story the way she was reading it.

Good not great
Revisado: 07-01-18
Fierce young friendship, murder, abduction, and science fiction are all found in this book. What didn’t quite put it over the edge for me was that the story hinges on a relationship that began in middle school. The characters are obsessed with each other, but we’ve not really been given a compelling reason why. Yes, we’re reminded over and over that they “get” each other but we’re not let in on their conversations. I couldn’t quite buy in.
