How can you get through 6 books and then change everything in book 7? Why does, all of a sudden Zion (Zi-on) become Tz-I-own? Ridiculous. And why does the Antichrist —- all of a sudden — sound like he’s from Transylvania? Is he a vampire ? Why did you start introducing accents in book 7? So distracting… I mean, I’m still going to get book 8 because I’m invested in the characters. And also I want to see if anyone else develops an accent.

I had my hopes set too high for the second book by VE Scwab. It was a good story, the performance was excellent, but it was too reminiscent of other dark magic stories by any number of authors like neil gaiman or ransom Riggs.
It's definitely a good story but if want to read something mind blowing read her first book, Viscous.

The first book was so bad, but I was invested in the characters, even the horrible, narcissistic, lazy and sex obsessed Gardner. And so I was looking for some redemption with the second book. It did not happen. In fact, I was so annoyed with the other worldly freya, even more so when I heard the authors note, that I had to cut my losses there. I will not be listening to a third, if it is written...
