Historia
1945. In the waning months of World War II, Japan hid vast quantities of gold and other stolen valuables in boobytrapped underground caches all across the Philippines. By 1947 some of that loot was recovered, not by treasure hunters, but by the United States government, which told no one about the find. Instead, those assets were stamped classified, shipped to Europe, and secretly assimilated into something called the Black Eagle Trust.

My least favorite of all the Cotton Malone books
Revisado: 11-09-24
I love Cotton Malone, and have read every single one of the books in this series, some of them more than once. I found The Atlas Manuever to be BORING, It just didn’t hold my interest. I found it difficult to finish. Very disappointed this time around.

Historia
Ward McAllister lived in the mid-to-late nineteenth-century USA. This audiobook encompasses his commentary on the parties held by the elite in the USA and Europe during that time. Well-connected and well-traveled, McAllister describes the habits, trends, and wealth of the upper classes of society. As the author testifies, it was a time of transformative, unprecedented extravagance through the emergence of new technology and new prosperity.

Not at all what I was expecting. Boring. I’m glad I didn’t pay for it.

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 01-06-23
The story was interesting and entertaining enough, but the narration was terrible! At least 40 grossly mispronounced words. Shouldn’t the reader actually know the correct pronunciation of the words she’s reading?

Lots of problems with this book
Revisado: 11-21-22
I occasionally would like to know from which book of the Bible the narrator was reading. That information was never given. As if the entire Bible isn’t long enough, many parts are read twice in succession. Why? I would think that someone narrating any book would take the time and trouble to learn the correct pronunciation of words. I’m not talking about people’s names - I’m talking about common words like peridot and lapis lazuli. I will get through the year and finish listening, as reading the entire Bible has been on my bucket list for a very long time. But I do wish I had made a different choice. There are many choices out there, and I may try another one someday.

Historia
While Laura Ingalls grows up in a little house on the Western prairie, Almanzo Wilder is living on a big farm in New York State. Here Almanzo and his brother and sisters help with the summer planting and fall harvest. In winter there is wood to be chopped and great slabs of ice to be cut from the river and stored. Time for fun comes when the jolly tin peddler visits or, best of all, when the fair comes to town.

Good books, Horrible narrator
Revisado: 01-30-21
I love the books, but the narrator is ruining them. Her voice is just irritating. She can’t even pronounce simple words such as “mow” - as in hay mow. Mow in this form rhymes with cow.

Didn’t buy this to hear author’s political opinion
Revisado: 09-05-20
I’ve read and enjoyed Carl Hiaasen’s books, but really? Don’t we hear enough political bashing everywhere else these days? I was so disgusted by the inclusion of the author’s political opinions that it ruined the entire book for me. Goodbye, Carl Hiaasen.
