This has too much heartbreak but it comes full circle and the love stories and intertwined paths of each character make it worthwhile. Definitely will be listening again!

In this electric and provocative debut novel, Amber Tamblyn blends genres of poetry, prose, and elements of suspense to give shape to the shocking narratives of victims of sexual violence, mapping the destructive ways in which our society perpetuates rape culture, brilliantly brought to life through a multi-voice performance featuring Glenn Davis, Ben Foster, Marc Maron, Jason Ritter, John Roberts, Russ Tamblyn, Amber Tamblyn, January Lavoy, Phoebe Strole, Robin Miles, Thérèse Plummer, Dan Bittner, James Fouhey, and Michael Crouch.

The sample was not an accurate representation
Revisado: 09-24-24
It’s about men being raped and having to navigate life afterwards. Would have been better to leave it up to imagination and not have the last chapter at all. Zero explanation why and zero closure so I’m just left feeling a massive amount of frustration and yuck. At least it was a quick listen.

Historia
Mary is a quiet middle-aged woman doing her best to blend into the background. Unremarkable. Invisible. Unknown even to herself. But lately, things have been changing inside Mary. Along with the hot flashes and body aches, she can’t look in a mirror without passing out, and the voices in her head have been urging her to do unspeakable things. Fired from her job in New York, she moves back to her hometown hoping to reconnect with her past and inner self. What she finds instead are visions of terrifying mutilated specters that come with increasing regularity.

Underlying plot so unnecessary
Revisado: 07-17-24
The intro and exit read by the author make sure you know the main character is going through menopause but there are zero reasons why it is such an important concept. The main character is exceptionally unlikeable making this difficult to finish. Additionally, the supporting character (Nadine) is more than annoying. At the end the author states this is a book he’s been writing for decades starting back to when he was a teenager. This seems like there are so many decent ideas jumbled into one book and executed poorly. I don’t write reviews usually and I’d hate for the author to read this with me just dumping on this work but man this was truly awful and I absolutely will not be seeking anything else written by this author.

What the HAIL
Revisado: 03-11-24
Great story line, slight suspense, mild-moderate but mostly tasteful smut, and a good twist at the end. What a roller coaster of a book!

Historia
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye have just one thing in common. They were all murdered by the same man. He hunted them online, masquerading as an eligible bachelor. Then he played the perfect gentleman, a thick layer of charm and a thousand-watt smile hiding the fact that his first dates end in shallow graves. He’s gotten away with murder three times now. The only thing that might keep him from killing again? The women he murdered. Meghan, Brecia, and Skye might be dead, but they’re not gone. They’ve found each other. And they won’t rest until they find a way to stop him. The haunt is on.

Meh
Revisado: 01-28-23
The narrator sounds like she’s on the verge of tears the entire book which is distracting and changes her voice when speaking for someone other than the author which is a little too dramatic for me. There were some pretty good points made but otherwise it was just ok.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.
