Historia
In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency - a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

Firsthand history
Revisado: 07-24-21
It's always interesting to read (or hear) firsthand accounts of the events we see in the headlines. These events happened pretty recently, adding to the interest. President Obama's writing is clear and direct, and I sometimes marvel at his recall of events or details. He largely resists the urge to comment or polemicize, instead keeping to a straight recitation of events and his memories of them.
At first, I found his voice a bit slow. I listened to the first few hours at higher speed. But eventually, I slowed it down to enjoy his soothing voice and unhurried delivery.
For those who remember, for those who want to probe the President's understanding of events, and for those who want to learn more details about the recent history of the United States, I recommend this book.

Fascinating
Revisado: 01-11-19
This is a brilliant multi-disciplinary analysis that, at some indiscernible point, crosses into a Western Buddhist techno fever dream. The author shows an intellectual facility that takes some adjusting to get used to. Whatever your orientation, you'll need to suspend your propensity to be offended in order to follow the arguments. If you can do this, it'll be worth the ride.

Many of the prices we pay seem to make little sense. We shell out $2.29 for a coffee at Starbucks when a nearly identical brew can be had at the corner deli for less than a dollar. We may be less willing to give blood for $25 than to donate it for free. Americans hire the cheap labor of illegal immigrants to fix the roof or mow the lawn and vote for politicians who promise to spend billions to keep them out of the country.

Somewhat interesting
Revisado: 03-20-15
This was an interesting examination of a few hard-to-value aspects of life as seen through the lens of economics. I had a hard time getting through the chapter on the environment and global warming. I kept losing interest. Otherwise, the book's not bad.

Historia
Amazon.com started off delivering books through the mail. But its visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now.

I have always enjoyed company founding and growth stories, and this one was no exception.
