Fascinating and Heartbreaking

This was such an interesting , informative and well written memoir, but hearing Burt obviously struggling to speak with much gusto was heartbreaking, as were the times he would break down emotionally. You could almost sense that he knew his life was nearing its end. I learned so much about him though!

Excellent Memoir!

I mostly listen to memoirs, and this one may be my favorite so far! I was only vaguely familiar with Jeanette, but I’d heard hers was an interesting story, and it really kept me engaged. I also enjoyed her funny, droll, almost world weary delivery. I will say I slowed the speed down a bit right away- it felt almost sped up on the normal speed. But all in all, an excellent memoir!

Way Too Nice

Loved her as Rhoda. But with all the attention of that, and then all the other major things she experienced in her vast life and career, almost everyone and everything is presented as being lovely, beautiful, delightful. I wanted to know more about her real feelings about tough times and difficult people.

A saccharin tale as old as time

This was as sappy and unoriginal a story as I’ve ever read/ heard. Alice Hoffman probably spit this one out during her morning coffee one day. Don’t waste your time.

Bravely Told and Beautifully Read

Although I agree with some reviewers that the book is uneven in that it seems extremely rushed after Norma Rae ( for instance-how did she not even address the fallout from her infamous “You really like me!” moment after her 2nd Oscar??), especially after giving so much detail to some seemingly minor moments. But the depth of bravery in letting herself look bad at times, and her absolutely beautiful narration made for a very engaging memoir.

Amusing - but where are the editors?!?

Brilliant performance by the narrator kept me going, but so many scenes went on way too long. Like, waaay too long, as Sam would say.

Oh My Carrie!
