Historia
Something new entered our world in November 2022—the first general purpose AI that could pass for a human and do the kinds of creative, innovative work that only humans could do previously. Wharton professor Ethan Mollick immediately understood what ChatGPT meant: after millions of years on our own, humans had developed a kind of co-intelligence that could augment, or even replace, human thinking. Through his writing, speaking, and teaching, Mollick has become one of the most prominent and provocative explainers of AI.

After watching the author give a presentation on the topic, I wanted to learn more. I did. I'm both more excited about the possibilities and more frightened. Listen now, before it becomes obsolete!

Historia
The Annurian Empire is disintegrating. The advantages it used for millennia have fallen to ruin. The ranks of the Kettral have been decimated from within, and the kenta gates, granting instantaneous travel across the vast lands of the empire, can no longer be used. In order to save the empire, one of the surviving Kettral must voyage beyond the edge of the known world through a land that warps and poisons all living things to find the nesting ground of the giant war hawks. Meanwhile, a monk turned con-artist may hold the secret to the kenta gates.

A new trilogy with new performers
Revisado: 10-12-21
I wasn't drawn in immediately like I was with the Emperor's Blades, but I really loved this first book in the Ashes of the Unhewn Throne trilogy! At first I admit that I was disappointed Simon Vance wasn't narrating again. The three performances were very well done and it worked beautifully with the three stories from three different points of view.
I'm a huge fan of all of the Unhewn Throne books. I really enjoyed how Staveley created a new story that builds upon both The Skullsworn as well as the Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne.

Historia
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

masterful narration
Revisado: 09-24-19
Michael C. Hall's performance is outstanding. He masterfully captures the accents and voices of each character so beautifully that it sometimes sounds like a full cast. The emotional performance is likewise amazing as the characters experience the anger, sadness, loss and terror. As for the story, it's one of Stephen King's best and certainly deserving of repeat listenings.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

great premise. boring exposition
Revisado: 10-10-18
It starts out great. The performance by Jonathan Davis is awesome. The pizza deliverator is gold. At some point, the story stops in favor of two characters having and endless conversation to provide excessive background details. I forced myself to finish because so many friends have recommended this book and Stephenson.

Historia
Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her - her identity, her spirit, her will to live - pay. Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: Every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at 17 years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life.

Historia
Things have been going pretty badly for Theo Bernstein. An unfortunate accident at work has lost him his job (and his work involved a Very Very Large Hadron Collider, so he's unlikely to get it back). His wife has left him. And he doesn't have any money. Before Theo has time to fully appreciate the pointlessness of his own miserable existence, news arrives that his good friend, a renowned physicist and Nobel laureate, has died. By leaving the apparently worthless contents of his safety deposit box to Theo, however, the professor has set him on a quest of epic proportions.

Hitchhikers Guide meets Budapest Hotel
Revisado: 08-07-18
This is funny and so weird! The tone and language reminded me of the classic "A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" and Wes Anderson's movie "The Grand Budapest Hotel". I found myself enjoying going down the rabbit hole with Tom Holt. I had never heard/read anything by him and was pleasantly surprised by his style.
Great characters and interesting philosophy.
