outstanding book. fascinating reading it in 2019 and comparing past fear mongering to today. the last 2 chapters in this new version are a retrospective of ideas that glassner presented in the first version of the book and how post 9/11 america has gotten worse and better in regards to the culture of fear.

I have read 3 of Klosterman's nonfiction books and Downtown Owl. The Visible Man takes all of the things that are great about his nonfiction and combines them with a captivating story that improves upon the writing in his last novel. As Vicky mentions near the end of the book, invisibility has been used many times in fiction and media before, so it's a relief to see that Klosterman's book doesn't feel like it is rehashing unnecessarily. one of the things I love most about the book is the enjoyable mixture of sci-fi and cultural commentary. Reading Y (the invisible - or as he would put it "cloaked" - therapy patient) passively relay his voyeuristic adventures, detailing both the minutiae of people's lives while at the same time mentioning the difficulties of staying silent while invisible, is great stuff. The "Valerie" story is one of my favorites and starts to show that Y is not as passive and 'scientific' as he would have us believe. To me, the disappointment comes at the book's end, where there doesn't seem to be an adequate conclusion to either the cultural or scifi themes. The book's last act moves into typical thriller territory which wasn't satisfying with respect to the rest of the book. The Visible Man is around 250 pages and I would have been delighted to read/hear 50 more that would have given a more fulfilling, rich conclusion. As for the performances, the two voice actors do their jobs well and it's one of the better performances I have heard in the past year.

chomsky's books are tough for audible, but content is conveyed pretty well here. due to his encyclopedic knowledge of u.s. foreign policy, chomsky's work can be dense, which can make it tough for audio books. however, this book is invaluable for understanding U.S. intervention in central america particularly and it needs to be heard

Would you consider the audio edition of God Is Not Great to be better than the print version?

-

What other book might you compare God Is Not Great to and why?

Ironically, god is Not Great reminded me of Frank Turek's "I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist", albeit Hitch argues from the opposite side. There is an abundance of evidence as to why we should have great doubts about and anger toward religion.

What about Christopher Hitchens’s performance did you like?

Mr. Hitchens's performance captured his delivery and intelligence that is so noticeable in speeches and interviews he gave over the years.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is a book that may make you think, infuriate you, cause you to doubt long held beliefs, or applaud at a great intellectual who has done so much for the secular movement.

Any additional comments?

god is not Great does an excellent job of detailing Christopher Hitchens's thoughts on religion around the world and the damage it has done to the societies of our planet throughout history.
