Best book I've read in a long time
Revisado: 04-04-17
I found the characters likable and the cultural and historical references fascinating.
I loved the introduction of the mystic element in the plot. It deepens the cultural references and also solves some issues for the author but is cleverly done.

Historia
The Earl of Burford can't believe his luck. Rex Ransom, his favourite star from the 'talkies', and his hot-shot producer, Haggermeir, want to film their next feature at Alderley, the family's seventeenth-century country estate. Somewhat less enthusiastic is the Countess, who finds herself hosting an impromptu house party for the incoming Hollywood crowd.

Author hit his satirical stride

I love all the references to other detectives in this book. I enjoyed the first book but this one was even more tongue in cheek and was funny while maintaining the mystery plot line,

Historia
In AD 664 King Oswy of Northumbria has convened a synod at Whitby to hear debate between the Roman and Celtic Christian Churches and decide which shall be granted primacy in his kingdom. At stake is much more than a few disputed points of ritual; Oswy's decision could affect the survival of either Church in the Saxon kingdoms. When the Abbess Etain, a leading speaker for the Celtic Church, is found murdered, suspicion falls upon the Roman faction.

Great character development
Revisado: 03-10-15
Tremayne really wowed me with his historical detail. He spent a lot of time developing the characters too. The clues were all there like breadcrumbs and lots of nice, juicy red herrings too.
