Much better narrator than Forge of Darkness
Revisado: 11-13-19
First things first - the audio is in proper order now, they fixed it after the previous reviewers comments.
Mostly I’m just stopping in to say if the previous narrator for Forge of Darkness turned you off, this guy is much better. While almost everything the previous guy said ended up sounding like a busy 16 year old on their way to the mall, this new guy has proper gravitas for the source material. He isn’t perfect, but he’s miles ahead of Philpott.
Regarding pronunciation, every narrator in Erikson’s stuff seems to do it differently. Kind of a let down. I would expect better from the producers at Brilliance Audio, but as always, you get used to it :(

In this intense detective thriller instilled with philosophical, religious, and social commentary, Dostoevsky studies the psychological impact upon a desperate and impoverished student when he murders a despicable pawnbroker, transgressing moral law to ultimately "benefit humanity".

"Amazing" doesn't do it justice
Revisado: 05-09-13
I didn't expect to be so taken with an "old" novel, especially considering it's a translation. I am pleasantly surprised in every possible way. Although it was published in 1866 it could have been written yesterday. Anthony Heald does an absolutely stunning narration, he really brings the story to life. I never once thought of it as a "translation" thanks to Anthony's great reading. Great story, narration, the whole package. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Historia
In Dead Man's Walk, Gus and Call are not yet 20, young men coming of age in the days when Texas was still an independent republic. Enlisting as Texas Rangers under a land pirate who wants to seize Santa Fe from the Mexicans, Gus and Call experience their first great adventure in the barren great plains landscape, in which arbitrary violence is the rule -- whether from nature, or from the Indians whose territory they must cross in order to reach New Mexico.<

Poorly done
Revisado: 04-18-13
Would you try another book from Larry McMurtry and/or Will Patton?
Yes, I will probably read the rest of the series based on the excellence of Lonesome Dove. I very rarely dislike a book this much, usually I can see the good in it and see what the author was intending. This one had me waiting for it to end.
What was most disappointing about Larry McMurtry’s story?
There didn't seem to be any kind of plot, or much character development throughout this story. It seems that McMurtry was simply milking the characters and not putting in any effort.
Would you be willing to try another one of Will Patton’s performances?
The narration was awful. I'm not sure if it was the narrators fault or the bad writing, or a combination of both. Perhaps a different genre would suit Will better.
Any additional comments?
I am sorry to sound so negative, but this one really left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel I would have been better off to have only read Lonesome Dove. Having said that, I will still finish the Comanche Moon and Streets of Laredo because I like the characters. All in all I'd say skip this one.

Herbert is a genius
Revisado: 03-15-10
This is my favorite book so far, it didn't seem slow to me at all. There's so much to these books, maybe they aren't full of hollywood style action, but the plotting and psychological action is intense, as with all the dune books (at least to me). Awesome stuff, and Simon Vance rocks.
