Historia
It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

Unsatisfying all around

When I was searching for a book to order on Audible, I remember seeing the screen adaptation for this book that was put out a few years ago. I found the whole premise of this book really, really intriguing. I thought that the book would provide more insight and details. But, it really did not.
I did not enjoy the narration, but I figured it would be worth it if the book itself was enlightening. Unfortunately, I had to slog through both the narration and the story to get to an unfulfilling end.
I felt like the narrator had just gruff masculine voices. The female voice was all affect and portrayed Juliana as almost an airhead. I will admit, part of that was the writing for the character. I will be interested to go back and watch the screen adaptation because I don’t remember her being played as that type of character. It will be interesting to see what they did - How they changed the story to make the screen adaptation so interesting.
The characters’ thoughts were halting half sentences in some kind of strange pidgin alternate language. It was really weird.

With her characteristic raw honesty, Nadia shares that the secret to her healing has been “honestly, a lot of pain.” Plus, Nadia leads Abby to a heartbreaking, cathartic moment of clarity – and shares a blessing that she wrote for Abby and all queer people. Good on so many levels
Revisado: 12-14-23
I just listened to this for the third time in the last 48 hours. There is so much good stuff in here, I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss a word, a joke, a tear.
The perfect combination of personalities and the way Glennon, Abby, and Sister and the guest always have such chemistry, and empathy, and humor always strikes me, and so it is with this episode.
Nadia is a powerful force and she hilariously imparts her wisdom in all of its raw, flawed, human-ness in a way that is so relatable I want to share it with all of my people. And I have some people that NEED to hear this – I have shared it with them, and I hope they’re able to HEAR it. Even if it is something that they have seen and read and heard before . . . but maybe THIS time it may be different. Maybe THIS time something will help them begin to allow them to love themselves, to forgive themselves. I consider myself a spiritual person, not a religious person (I don’t trust the “institution”). I felt like I could completely align with Nadia's views and her ministry. I vaguely knew of Nadia in the past, but now . . . . I am already looking at my next Audible purchase – it will be one of her books. She Is someone I am committing to follow and learn from.
There are SO many deeply powerful moments, many hilaiorus moments, some aha moments, and a couple of REALLY beautiful moments. Here are a few of the latter: a text exchange between Nadia and Anne about why we humans need each other, Nadia’s blessing to Abby, and Abby’s emotional bombshell that’s emerged as a result of doing the HARD and painful work on the journey to wholeness.
Dang. It’s just SO good!
