Historia
Bestselling historian and Pulitzer Prize finalist H. W. Brands narrates the fierce debate over America's role in the world in the runup to World War II through its two most important figures: President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who advocated intervention, and his isolationist nemesis, aviator and popular hero Charles Lindbergh.

Another American History Pearl from H.W. Brands
Revisado: 10-05-24
H.W. Brands writes another excellent, thorough investigation of American History. In this volume he reviews the speeches, statements, press conferences, etc. of FDR vs Charles Lindbergh concerning the possible involvement of America in a second European War. Again the author is without prejudice for one or the other of the “adversaries” and lets the reader draw his/her own conclusions about the time period involved. I always appreciate that Brands gives the readers “just the facts” and lets one draw their own conclusions about the two individuals involved. The narrator was excellent and often gave appropriate accents to the individuals quoted. A very interesting read!

Historia
William Tecumseh Sherman and Geronimo were keen strategists and bold soldiers, ruthless with their enemies. Over the course of the 1870s and 1880s these two war chiefs would confront each other in the final battle for what the American West would be: a sparsely settled, wild home where Indian tribes could thrive, or a densely populated extension of the America to the east of the Mississippi.

Outstanding Unbiased Native American History
Revisado: 11-07-22
H. W. Brands is my favorite writer of American history. His books are always entertaining with honest information and fun anecdotes. In this venture he compares the lives of General Sherman and the Apache, Geronimo. He portrays history as it should be portrayed. Everyone knows that Native Americans were repeatedly “screwed” by whites, etc., etc., etc., Here he provides both sides of the story and let’s the reader makes his/her own judgements about the described events. He reports “just the facts” and allows one to assess the thoughts and conclusions of individuals living at the time of the events. For example, there is no discussion of General Custer’s “craziness” or “egomania” but a poignant mention of then Sherman’s’s letter to Custer’s grieving widow! It is so nice to read an historian giving straight history rather than the “woke” interpretation of past events. It does include descriptions of massacres by Native Americans (e.g., Fetterman’s massacre) as well as massacres against Native Americans (e.g., Fort Grant).
This book is a pleasure to listen to/read and records many interesting events throughout the history of the West with an excellent human touch.

Excellent review of sleep and sleep disorders!
Revisado: 10-20-22
Dr. Molano gives an excellent, clear, concise review of sleep mechanisms and disorders geared toward the layman. The review gives a thorough update on recent concepts of the neurology of sleep and does well in summarizing sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, REM sleep behavior disorder, sleep apnea, etc. Her discussion of treatments is excellent and she even spends time on methods that can be used by everyone to help relax and promote good sleep hygiene. I am a physician and learned useful data about sleep problems in patients with Alzheimer disease,Parkinsonism, aging, etc. Very highly recommended!

Ah, remember ye olde days when the family would gather around the giant Philco radio and listen to serials? You don’t? We don’t either. But apparently that’s how Cinnamon Bear was born on November 26, 1937, as the star of a holiday season cliff-hanger-style children’s radio series. We hear it was quite the rage!

Does George Washington still matter? Best-selling author Nathaniel Philbrick argues for Washington’s unique contribution to the forging of America by retracing his journey as a new president through all 13 former colonies, which were now an unsure nation. Travels with George marks a new first-person voice for Philbrick, weaving history and personal reflection into a single narrative.

Fun listen but too much about slavery
Revisado: 09-19-21
I really enjoy all of the author’s previous books. This book is fun and made more enjoyable by the reading by the author himself. I discovered new information about the first president’s dentures,, his portrait in Charleston, SC showing possibly his horse defecating on the city, etc. It is fun to follow Washington’s trials and victories throughout his tour of the early United States. My only problem is that the author too often stressed anachronistic ideas about slavery into the discussion about Washington’s journey with ideas about destroying historical statues, etc into the text. The WOKE ideas somewhat spoiled an otherwise fun, entertaining, and educational odyssey of the life of George Washington.

In Dinosaurs Rediscovered, leading paleontologist Michael J. Benton gathers together all the latest paleontological evidence, tracing the transformation of dinosaur study from its roots in antiquated natural history to an indisputably scientific field. Among other things, the book explores how dinosaur remains are found and excavated, and especially how paleontologists read the details of dinosaurs' lives from their fossils - their colors, their growth, and even whether we will ever be able to bring them back to life.

Great Review of Recent Dino Data
Revisado: 06-26-20
This book is an excellent, up to date review of information on dinosaurs. Author gives many personal insights into recent discoveries. I especially appreciated that a PDF of all of the book”s images was included in the Audible edition. Diagrams really help in understanding and appreciating text. All Audible science books should include PDF files of diagrams and all Audible history books should include pertinent maps! I did not find the narrator’s occasional mispronunciations a problem. If you are interested in dinosaurs you will like this book!

What is that mysterious thing we call charisma? Where does this magnetic quality come from? Why are we so drawn to it? Are people born charismatic - or do they become that way over time? Can charisma be just as much a force for evil as it is for good? Answers to questions like these are just as important now, in the 21st century, as they were during the earliest years of the American republic.

Interesting but biased
Revisado: 06-02-20
The course included interesting information about many Academics and historic individuals. However, the course praised Angela Davis and Oprah while making negative statements about Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump. The course was very well organized concerning the concept of charismatic individuals but was quite biased concerning conservative politicians. It was well presented and interesting but was marred by the last couple of chapters.

Best Summary of Dinosaur
Revisado: 07-25-18
I have been a dinosaur lover since childhood when I read “All About Dinosaurs” by Roy Chapman Andrews in the 1950s. Over the years I have dabbled with dinosaur books, the most memorable being Bakker’s “The Dinosaur Heresies.” Only after reading Brusatte’s book do I really feel that I understand Dinosaurs. I can now keep straight in my mind the different Mesozoic periods, what dinosaurs lived when, different species’ relationship to each other, the great extinctions, etc. I also got some understanding of what dinosaurs inhabit different countries and why based on the earth’s geography - previously very confusing to me. All this written in everyday, understandable language with little jargon. Felt like I got to know the author and other paleontologist with their qualms and human-ness (for example, having a few drinks after a hard day in the field). I listened to the audio version of this book but also ended up buying the kindle version to look at images. My only complaint is that each chapter had only several drawings or pictures of the dinosaurs discussed. This book is not for experts, but I loved it as an interested dinosaur lover.
