Historia
Princess Ying Yue believed in love...once upon a time. Yet when she’s chosen to wed the crown prince, Ying’s dreams of a fairy tale marriage quickly fall apart. Her husband-to-be is cold and indifferent, confining Ying to her room for reasons he won’t explain. Worse still are the rumors that swirl around the imperial palace: whispers of seven other royal brides who, after their own weddings, mysteriously disappeared. Left alone with only her own reflection for company, Ying begins to see things. Strange things.

well, I can appreciate a lot of the storyline and in the beginning I really liked it by the end of it. I did not enjoy how it was written and the clunky writing of the story.

outdated and toxic romances ruin a great fantasy
Revisado: 12-28-23
I am so sad and disappointed in the romantic situations in this book. I am tired of the cliche overprotective men who treat women like they are helpless even when they are the most capable person in the story. no, our heroin is not the most capable person in the story, but she's on her way there. I think it would have been a lot better to put the romantic ideas on the back burner for the second book and leave the first book. be more about this character's development into a strong capable storm bringer. I don't think that her feeling romantic for her mentor was that great of an idea and I did not like her mentor at all. he seemed to lack the ability to treat her like a person and allowed his fears to get ahead of his respect for her.
otherwise, I really liked the world building and I loved how the magic worked. I'm really sad about the rest of it though.

Adeline Colton was cursed. Everyone in Georgia knew the devil walked her farm, and maybe they were right, because each month she had dreams—visions of a dark prince and a shadowed forest, a creature so wrong, temptation lurked beneath her skin. So after escaping to New York City, it’s no surprise that her bad fortune follows. Only this time, it’s in the form of Jack Warren: millionaire bootlegger, infamous gangster, and criminal who makes Addie his fervent obsession.

Good Idea but...
Revisado: 12-23-23
overall I liked the story but I ended up not finishing it. I understand this is the 20s and the main lead is built to that timeframe but.... she's just so weak and timid I couldn't get into it. the whole thousand year old man with a 20 year old is just a cliche I'm tired of. the writing and content was good, but the main love was a little off for me. I'm sure others who don't mind that cliche would like it.

Historia
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

I really liked how the story was about someone who was a little bit older than your normal hero. I feel like there was a good premise for the story and it went directions that I didn't expect. there were a few pieces that I felt were unnecessary or I didn't really like. but overall, it's a good story and it's enjoyable

Revisado: 11-16-23
I wanted really badly to like this story because I typically like fantasy and Fay and a hero's journey... but it was hard to like the female character more than male character really any of the characters. and I know you don't necessarily need to like a character to finish a story about it. but it just wasn't for me. I think the main thing that took me out of it was how much normal language was used when swearing or talking in a certain way. it might be weird, but I like it when in these fantasy novels they use old speak or at least less of a modern vocabulary. unless it takes place in the modern era which I don't think it does. I think it takes place and it's own little section of the world. it just took me out of it.

Historia
Katarina Ashowan was not made for courtly life. Sure, her father is the famous house witch of Daxaria so she was raised among majestic castles, proper manners, and royal expectations. But Kat is also a mutated witch whose power aligns predominantly with fire. She’s more comfortable riding horses or learning to fight than she is making polite conversation and wearing fancy dresses. Which is why her upcoming assignment—serving her best friend, Alina, the soon-to-be crowned Troivackian queen—is anything but ideal.

love love love
Revisado: 10-23-23
I love this author and series. Sometimes the common modern language takes me out of the storyline but in a made-up fantasy world, it's not a big deal.
It's humorous and fun, with enough drama to keep you guessing.

Historia
Meet Toadling. On the day of her birth, she was stolen from her family by the fairies, but she grew up safe and loved in the warm waters of faerieland. Once an adult though, the fae ask a favor of Toadling: return to the human world and offer a blessing of protection to a newborn child. Simple, right? If only. Centuries later, a knight approaches a towering wall of brambles, where the thorns are as thick as your arm and as sharp as swords. He's heard there's a curse here that needs breaking, but it's a curse Toadling will do anything to uphold.

main female character is eh
Revisado: 07-12-23
My main issue is with the female lead. She is so clueless and annoyingly clueless that it hurts to listen. The excuse is that her parents died and how she doesn't use magic, but the amount of things she doesn't know about her own world drives me nuts. I get it's probably some sort of literary device in order to explain to the reader what's going on in the world but I hate it. nothing annoys me more than a very powerful main character who doesn't understand what's going on with her powers. then she gets so infantilized by the male lead that I couldn't even finish the book. I get that the male lead is sort of all powerful vampire who's been alive for centuries and we got this young witch who doesn't know what she's doing, but I am so tired of that cliche. this book could have been done so much better if the female character had more autonomy and didn't have the world happeninh around her and to her. instead, I would prefer to have her affecting the world instead of it affecting her. She's also extremely insecure for a very educated woman who is also athletic and beautiful. The author keeps going on about how the leads face too sharpen too long but we have a conventionally attractive woman attracting a vampire. The reasonable doubt that all women are insecure about themselves is old. I would have liked to see her be more confident in herself. more confident in her abilities in her knowledge. it just didn't fit because there are points in the store where she acts like she knows so much and she expresses herself so well and then I'll sudden she's like a 16-year-old. The inconsistencies in the story almost appears if the author doesn't understand what a woman in her mid to late 30s acts like.

Revisado: 12-14-22
I wasn't a fan of the narrator or the storyline I just couldn't get myself into believing the characters in putting myself into this fantasy of time travel and the whole concept of virgins and the witch and the deflowering virgins was not up my alley
