Historia
Kasia grew up in a poor Jewish home with more siblings than luxuries. But when a chance encounter forces her to the palace of Xerxes, she becomes a concubine to the richest man in the world. She alone, of all Xerxes's wives, loves the man beneath the crown. She alone, of all his wives, holds the heart of the king of kings. Traveling with Xerxes through Europe as he mounts a war against Greece, Kasia knows enemies surround her, but they're not the Spartans or Athenians. The threat lies with those close to the king who hate her people.

This is a great continuation of the Visibulus series. It was just a good as the first book and the narrator was a little better with her pronunciation and drawing out of words. This is a series that will join my favorites.

Great Book; Annoying Narrator
Revisado: 05-01-24
I really enjoyed this book. It is a great story and it is definitely worth the read, but be warned, the narrator adds a th to the majority of the words in this book. Newsth, didth, spreadth, restoredth, smileth, yearsth, streeth, heartth, forgivnessth, etc. unfortunately. It’s horrible. I’m not sure if it’s a speech impediment, a style, or what she thinks is most similar to the style of speech during the time period. It’s distracting, but the book draws you in enough that the annoyance fades away.
Another thing to note is that the book handles mature adult themes. I think it is done tastefully, with enough description to help you realize the weight of the depravity of sin, but not too much to make you feel like you’re reading a smutty exotic novel.

Unpleasant Narration
Revisado: 04-03-24
The narration isn’t good. The way she reads for the characters makes them sound sluggish and robotic. It’s very difficult to engage in the story. I find myself annoyed and distracted by the reading. After several chapters I followed the advice of some others and listened at 1.2x and it helped.

Historia
The Earl of St. Merryn needs a woman. His intentions are purely practical - he simply wants someone sensible and suitably lovely to pose as his betrothed for a few weeks among polite society. He has his own agenda to pursue, and a false fiancée will keep the husband-hunters at bay while he goes about his business. The simplest solution is to hire a paid companion. Finding the right candidate proves more of a challenge than he expected.

The storyline was good but if you’re looking for a wholesome romantic mystery, this isn’t it. There are a few very descriptive sexual encounters that weren’t necessary. The story would have been just as good, if not better without them.

Incredible
Revisado: 03-24-23
This book is wonderfully written and well performed. It was a sweet surprise in the free selection. It is rich in imagery and the story development takes it’s time but it doesn’t drag. I appreciate the narrator. Her performance gives life and authentic emotion to the characters. I highly recommend this book if you’re a fan of rich literature.

Great Story; Off putting Narration
Revisado: 02-28-23
The storyline of this book was great! It was well developed, entertaining and it didn’t drag. I really enjoyed it. The inflection the narrator uses is very distracting and annoying. She is a talented narrator outside of the odd inflection. I enjoyed her tone and the different character voices, but the inflection overshadowed her otherwise great performance.

Historia
Raina Bretton is a rag woman in London's East End when a handsome stranger appears in a dank alley and offers her a glittering smile and a chance for adventure. Rothburne Abbey has a unique position for her, one that will take her away from her hardscrabble life and give her a chance to be a lady. Things she could only dream of might be coming true. But some dreams turn out to be nightmares. Though Raina has traded squalor for silk and satin, something about the abbey is deeply unsettling.

Good Story
Revisado: 01-06-23
I really like the story. The mystery element is intriguing without feeling rote. I also love the loyalty element between the main character and her gent. The male voices are difficult to listen to. They’re more of a growl than a speaking voice and it gets irritating after a while. Most of the female voices are great which helps. Overall, it’s a good, clean mystery/romance.

This would be an excellent book but it needs a new narrator. After a while the narration becomes distracting instead of helping you immerse yourself into the story.
