Eloquent while grounded, philosophically and linguistically. Great world building—a super foundation for a complex and enjoyable epoch that is easy to read and relate to. Emotionally complex situations are tackled quite boldly.

Short and Sweet

Appropriately complicated plot for the length to keep audiences interested in characters and touch on some mild up and down feels. Mild sex scene that cuts out the middle details to keep the story focused on the characters’ journey. Nanny scenario is well handled to not feel deviant but a naturally anticipated twist.
Narrators consistent with other works which are steady, expressive and clear.

Well done all around.

Solid series foundation

Good variety of personalities for character building. Logical world building. Easy flowing and entertaining dialogue. Moderate amount of stat updates for crunchy fans but doesn’t bog down the story too much for those who focus on the plot lines. I believe this is the heaviest so far on stat updates due to the quick character development as the series establishes itself.

Travis does a great job on the narration!
I repeat, the dialogue is entertaining and I highly recommend trying it out. Some cursing but not peppered too thickly to be distracting. It all flows quite naturally. See for yourself!

Well balanced literary morsel

Steady pacing, solid characters and sense of family. Plot isn’t overly complicated but it’s satisfying. Not much to add beyond the official synopsis…it’s a lot of getting-to-know-you while overcoming trauma scenes with healthy doses of miscommunications and the ever looming moral/loyalty dilemmas with the bounty hunter/prosecution threat. Despite this less than resplendent summary, it got me in feels several times so it’s got that *something* that should make it worth your time.
Trigger warning for general battle violence, domestic abuse, and light discussion of off screen crimes such as sexual assault, rape, pedophilia and of course murder.

A confusing flurry of whimsy

The whole story and all it’s parts are about defining the undefinability of magic. It reads like a painting in the mind’s eye of the artist. The entire point is to convey a small piece of the very wonder that is in its most essential essence inexplicable...an impossible task tackled by combining depictions of dance, movement, light, emotions, mystery, scholarship and prejudice. It reminds me of some foreign independent films in such that the slower pacing and vagaries are too much for most reader/listeners to have the patience. All the various story threads do eventually converge but not until the end. It’s a lot to hold on to in your head as the pieces collect for the puzzle.

There’s a magic school that, over the centuries under power hungry paranoid royal rule, has gone awry with itself. There are over a half dozen characters who bumble about, each on their own journeys of self discovery that cross each other’s paths...eventually contributing to a kind of self correction in magical philosophy. The key word being—eventually. Most of the time I found myself either confused or annoyed. However, overall it was a pleasant literary escapade which the author wrapped up neatly in the end.

The natural tone & pacing was way too sedate for me. I listened at 1.3x & sometimes even 1.5x to get through it tolerably. Even at those speeds the narration was cleanly understood.

Triple Play

Plot is a bit weak/shallow but not bad and makes sense. Triple men and packed with triple sex scenes means less room for plot depth. But it’s not overly cheesy or brazenly in the face of logic as some stories tend to sacrifice for the sake of forcing another steamy scene. The motivation for her leaving Earth is glossed over pretty quickly, but again, character depth is sacrificed for steam...BUT not overly so to damage the overall flow or quality. Sex scenes are heavily emphasized but not redundant or boring. A good listen for what it is.

Petulant lead

I understand the leading characters are only 17, but the immaturity is a bit much for me. At one point she admits to having a 2-yr-old tantrum but there are so many more small things that just grate. There isn’t really much character development. Granted, it ends up being a lengthy series so maybe that comes later. But I don’t see how anyone could accept her as a strong future Luna. There are a lot of good elements to the story but I’m not sure the strengths were capitalized well to draw out its potential.

Heavy with Irrationally Lustful Sidebars

While lusty daydreams mid-conversation typically add coveted levity and steam to the storyline, the overuse of this technique detracts to the point of making it difficult to sync with the pace of the primary storyline. The story is also broken down in such a way to force readers to continue purchasing parts of the “series” to get to the overarching plot. Nothing of substance happens in #1. It’s basically an intro teaser. There’s a good premise here with solid character building and humor, but I personally don’t have the patience to both sift through over-the-top lust addled sidebars and be drip-fed plot progression.

Horrible Narration

Male mumbles & too quite. Like a timid Scott with marbles in his mouth. Female audio is clearer/louder, but in contrast with the male voice is quite a shock. Not sure why they caste the accents not matching the story.

Pleasant read

This would be a nice, well rounded PG13 movie. Characters are solid but not very deep. Slow burn relationship with tepid sex scenes. It’s more of an intellectual battle of Will than anything between the characters to accept the new relationship. If that’s what you’re looking for, than this will be good. If you want steamy alpha conquering....ahhh, keep looking.
