Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

The Great Re-wiring

Thankyou. I hope enough people pay attention and implement the author’s suggestions. I almost didn’t read this because I don’t see anxiety in my gen z children. So glad I did, as the issue goes beyond anxiety.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

1* because I could not finish it. The main character views herself as a victim of the male patriarchy.

Historia
In We Don't Know Ourselves, Fintan O'Toole weaves his own experiences into Irish social, cultural, and economic change, showing how Ireland, in just one lifetime, has gone from a reactionary "backwater" to an almost totally open society - perhaps the most astonishing national transformation in modern history. O'Toole narrates the once unthinkable collapse of the all-powerful Catholic Church, brought down by scandal and by the activism of ordinary Irish. He relates the horrific violence of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, which led most Irish to reject violent nationalism.

Eye opening
Revisado: 06-23-23
I bought a hard copy version of this book but switched to audio when I found it too difficult to get through. It is not a cheerful or entertaining read, but I am so glad to have accomplished listening to it. My grandparents taught me about the Ireland they loved but had to leave, this book caught me up to today. I leave the book feeling sad about everything the Irish have been through, but also more informed about how institutions, political parties, even individuals, have abused power there. Hopefully, going forward, for the Irish, there will be less looking the other way, and more appreciating who they are and what they bring to the world.

Excellent and worth every minute
Revisado: 05-12-23
I delayed reading this, after first hearing about it, because of the length. So glad my curiosity finally got the better of me. The author found the perfect mix of technical info presented in an engaging way, historical anecdotes, and personal connection. Also, this is the first time I have enjoyed an author reading his/her own book, when that author has not been an actor. Excellence all around, thank you!

Historia
The quote above certainly does a good job of describing empathy. Those who nurture heightened empathy feel through the hearts of others, listen to, and perceive the plight of others as their own. If you can relate to this, and you have a heightened sense of sensitivity that makes you extremely compassionate and overwhelmed at the same time, you are an empath. After listening to this book, you will feel empowered to take steps toward being more assertive and outspoken about your needs, focus on gratitude and let go of anger, and, treat your sensitive nature as a gift.

This book is a fraud. Don't believe any reviews
Revisado: 04-14-21
For starters, the narrator sounded like a machine generated voice. I overlooked that and made it through 4 chapters. I stopped when he started discussing crystals. Who is this author and what are his credentials? It basically felt like someone (for whom English is a second language) googled Empaths and wrote a 4 hour summary with what he found. A pass for sure, I wasted my money.

Historia
Of all the religions, creeds, and self-help manifestos the world has produced, most concentrate on how to achieve salvation in aspects other than the here-and-now, with our lives merely transitory testing grounds for a higher realm or our actions guided so that we maximize life in a state of "enlightened hedonism", consuming rapaciously but really achieving not much at all. But there's one philosophy that provides a concrete foundation for living well, for living "a good life" in this world. Stoicism.
