Historia
In this strange and wonderful book, thirty elders of the ancient Hopi tribe of Northern Arizona—a people who regard themselves as the first inhabitants of America—freely reveal the Hopi worldview for the first time in written form. The Hopi kept this view a secret for countless centuries, and anthropologists have long struggled to understand it. Now they record their myths and legends, and the meaning of their religious rituals and ceremonies as a gift to future generations.

Great: But not an Audiobook.
Revisado: 07-15-24
Don't get me wrong - the first 2 hours or so are riveting. The narrator is great. The issue is that as soon as we get into the middle of the book it's a steady stream of "reference this picture" or "see this graphic." I only listen when I walk or drive...even given the supplemental material it simply won't work. If you're interested in Hopi history and mythology, go for it - but if you're going to do the Audible version, be prepared to have the supplemental material handy.

Historia
Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over. The time of rebellion has begun.

Just... OK.
Revisado: 09-17-21
This book felt like fairly standard fantasy fare. There's little to distinguish it from the field. The author tries to weave origin stories in...imagining what it might have looked like when things were first discovered or invented, whether concept or tool. YMMV, but for me it felt forced and flat rather than clever. It certainly added little to the story, other than perhaps to really, really prove that one or another character was, well, clever.
The characters are relatively thin, and the worldbuilding takes priority over any real insights or growth. It's not that the characters don't change or grow... it's just linear, predictable, and ultimately, not especially interesting.
