A perfect novel
Revisado: 02-16-25
Don’t read it if you lack the ability to relate to the feeling of being an unloved outcast in childhood. But if you love complicated protagonists who are strange and magical, and if you know about secret longing to be seen and understood, you should absolutely read this.

Historia
By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

I can’t believe some of the other reviews
Revisado: 07-01-24
Have you ever heard anyone describe falling in stupid love, or pettiness or greed or humiliation better than Miranda July?! To those who were disappointed, what were you hoping for? I think her power is most shocking and potent when it is directed at the most delicate and embarrassing parts of being a human being. To those who think she is trying to be overly progressive, I’m pretty sure open relationships and non-binary kiddos are kind of mainstream at this point, no? Not to mention, I’m pretty sure a lot of the basic plot points are auto biographical. I loved this start to finish, it kept my attention and made me feel alive and made me think.

Gratitude for some good queer love
Revisado: 06-02-24
The characters are real, like real people, real feelings, real bodies, real weirdness. It was a strange and good and sad and beautiful love story with just the right amount of everything else. I love this authors first book, too, and think about it from time to time. This has the same level of introspection regarding class, politics, gender. I grew up in a weird rural place and so many writers get weird rural places wrong, but Emma Copley Eisenberg is one who gets it right.

Historia
In the early evening of June 25, 1980 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, two middle-class outsiders named Vicki Durian, 26, and Nancy Santomero, 19, were murdered in an isolated clearing. They were hitchhiking to a festival known as the Rainbow Gathering but never arrived. For 13 years, no one was prosecuted for the "Rainbow Murders", though deep suspicion was cast on a succession of local residents in the community, depicted as poor, dangerous, and backward.

more than just true crime
Revisado: 03-28-20
I loved this book. I thought the narration was well done. I loved the combination of "true crime" and memoir that somehow expands/explodes open both genres. I learned a lot about West Virginia which is an often forgotten but really important state! Highly recommend.
