Historia
When it comes to what we believe, humans see what they want to see. In other words, we have what Julia Galef calls a "soldier" mindset. From tribalism and wishful thinking, to rationalizing in our personal lives and everything in between, we are driven to defend the ideas we most want to believe - and shoot down those we don't.

Delightful practical guide how to see more clearly
Revisado: 06-04-21
It is so hard for people to have open and respectful dialog with those who hold different views, opinions and ideologies. It is also so hard for us to change our mind and habits, even when presented by lots of evidence. This book offers a refreshing practical guide for healing our ability to listen, see and asses anything. Wonderfully read by the author.

Historia
Harvard-educated psychologist and best-selling author Melanie Joy exposes the psychology that underlies all forms of oppression and abuse and the belief system that gives rise to this psychology - which she calls powerarchy. In this thought-provoking analysis, Joy explains how we’ve all been deeply conditioned by the invisible system of powerarchy to believe in a hierarchy of moral worth - to view some individuals and groups as either more or less worthy of moral consideration - and to treat them accordingly.

Great book
Revisado: 12-18-19
There is lots of wisdom in this book. Narrator was a bit quick for me in some parts so I had to go back and re-listen but both book and narration was engaging. Book has woke me up to the many ways I play roles in power systems without awareness and way I can transform myself and these power systems. Thank you 🙏

Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears - without causing a scene. Defining the true meaning of the “d” word (to instruct, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth.

Good approach and ideas, but has issues
Revisado: 06-05-17
Some great ideas in this book, but it has lots of repetition. I like how Tina reads her sections in warm supportive voice. It was harder to listen to Daniels analytical voice in some sections.

Historia
Long before the success of his bossa nova Grammy winner “The Girl from Ipanema”, Stan Getz was a fixture in the pantheon of jazz greats. From his recording of “Early Autumn” with the Woody Herman band in 1949, which catapulted him to stardom at age 22, to the 1961 jazz/classical masterpiece “Focus”, to the 1990 release of “Apasionado”, Getz’s 49-year career is a tale of enduring artistic success in the midst of a troubled life.

Looks like author didn't have access to close friends and family
Revisado: 07-20-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The first half of the book is like a bad history book: list evens around Stan Getz and other people and very little about his experiences and character can be learned. The other half is better, due to records from Stan's lengthy divorce trial. In general, I find I learned from the book mostly on Stan Getz public life and what you learn from divorce trial records and not enough about his character, life ambitions, emotional world and musical explorations.
Would you ever listen to anything by Donald Maggin again?
Yes
Would you listen to another book narrated by Patrick Cullen?
Not likely. Not written very well
Was Stan Getz worth the listening time?
Yes. Still learned interesting things about this great musican.
Any additional comments?
Hope better biography existed.
