A) Not many authors can create and maintain a self consistent world spread across multiple book series, characters and time frames. But Dan Sugralinov does it extremely well.
The details and Easter eggs (sup Crag), and the fact that the real world is so seamless and well integrated into the virtual game is what really elevates his stories from plain fun to epics that you can reread over and over again and always find something new. Some new hint or insight into the characters, or some piece of world building backstory that’s the ties into another story. It’s awesome and refreshingly consistent. And most of all, it feels real and grounded in reality, like I’m listening to personal accounts from a future not to far away.

This was enjoyable, fun, and gives insight into the future of Phil’s world, and the world maybe 25-30 years before Alex Sheppard was born.

B) Daniel Thomas May did an excellent job as always.

C) I’m glad to see Torfu again.

D) Egors story is mentioned in passing in Disgardium somewhere. And if it as epic as it sounded, I really can’t wait! Probably should reread Disgardium again pretty soon …

Anyway, this is definitely a must buy. See about also reading the Knockout, Level Up, and Disgardium series for more of the same world building, adventures, awesome stories, and characters

A perfect fit in the universe of Dan Sugralinov, tying together Disgardium and the original Level Up Series. This is my second time reading it, and it made me just as happy as the first time. I love Mike's story of growth, his struggles and mindset, and the choices he made to become a better person. It's so hopeful and so grounded, and the epilogue was such a bittersweet goodbye to these people I've come to really love I got teared up (not uncommon with his books).
It's not normal for a book or an author to be able to illicit such a wide range of emotions from a reader. It feels so close to a documentary about the early life of a really great person.
I absolutely recommended reading Re-Start if you haven't, and then jumping in to Disgardium after this series.

The continued Deus ex machina combined with the unneeded and unwanted harem antics in the middle of the book are going to make me pass on the rest of the series. Performance was pretty good, but the story gets continually shallower and unbelievable, while the stakes are predictably and gruesomely raised
Maybe the author isn’t going to use this to transition the series into a bunch of sex and gore scenes, but either way it’s not worth finding out. I’m done.

10/10 story, great writing, Nathan is now one of my favorite characters of all time, and Ramon De Ocampo just does such a great job with him, Tria, Sail, Kintz, and Klutch. I can’t wait for the next one. Gosh I’m glad I stumbled upon this series. It’s rare to find such a gem by accident

This kind of reads like a best of mashup of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Mass Effect.
Nathan, Tria, Sale, Kuntz, Clutch, and of course Justice just make it such a fun story that still sparks that sense of awe and wonder when they encounter sights we can only imagine, like the irradiated and destroyed planetary system, ruined ages long ago.
And Ramon De Ocampo brings it all together masterfully. He makes the story a joy to listen to. Really well done, and I can’t wait to get the next book!

1. Ramon De Ocampo is an amazing voice actor. Definitely brought the story to life and left O confusion who was speaking.
2. There’s very few authors who can smoothly and believably take the story from where it started to where it ended up. But Marc Steven’s did. This is Mass Effect space opera story telling. It takes that feeling of wonder and vastness from Star Wars and condenses the world into a whole easily digestible chunk that is now one of my favorites.
3. Talk about a first of my kind type story done right!
4. Characters make the space opera, and I liked Nathan from the get go, and just liked him even more as the story continued. If I could some him up in a sentence: The space cowboy with a conscience. I really rooted for him throughout.
5. No ridiculous, over done, plodding, boring, unbelievable acts of do for no reason besides Nathan’s the main character. And no sex. There’s romance, but it’s really sweet and not the typical space super soldier who sleeps with everything that moves.

This is well done, I’m getting the next one which is still free on audible plus, and will be buying the rest of the series as I get credits. It’s definitely worth it.

I really put off reading this because it was written in conjunction with someone other than Dan Sugralinov. But audible had it in its monthly rotation, and I really wanted more stories in his universe, so I gave it a shot.

Initially, I hated Mike. I don’t think I’ve ever loathed a main character before. Which is how the people around Mike also felt about him.
And then. Somewhere in the story, I stopped loathing him, and really liking him. And then rooting for him.

As a stand-alone novel, this book is great. But integrated into the Universe Mr. Sugralinov has built over the last several years, it becomes something even better. I like it a lot. I liked the different tale of growth, I loved seeing him struggle to choose courage. And I loved the hints at the wider world of Sugralinov and the different portrayal of the UIF interface from Phil’s.

It’s brilliant. And Ramon DeOcampo did an excellent job performing it.

10-25-24: I'm coming back to it a second time after a year, and it's even better. I absolutely loved this book, and I hope you do too. 5 stars.

A masterpiece

I’ve waited for this book for a year, and in the month leading up to it relistened to the whole disgardium series. Silly me, I should relistened to the Restart series and level up series too. It ties so many different threads together, answers so many questions about past events, and puts a lot of the series into a new perspective.

It’s extremely rare when an author can keep a self consistent world not only coherent across multiple books, but when you go back and listen to previous books and see the hints that were planned and played up in later books perfectly, that’s when you know you’ve found a diamond.

I loved this book. If you’ve made it this far in the series, you know how incredible it is. Mr. Sugralinov doesn’t just “get to the good stuff” like so many litrpgs, and dump you in the middle of a story about a popular reader analog you can pretend to be. He paces. He builds the story over time. He develops the characters into people with their own personalities, goals, desires. The world feels real and alive, and the time in the game is so well integrated into the time in the real world that it really does read like a look into the future.

And Mr Daniel Thomas May needs to take a bow. I haven’t listened to a book read this well since James Marsters acted out the Dresden Files. Every character has their own voice and is easily distinguishable from every other across every book. He took the book and brought every character and story to life.

This is a masterpiece. I can’t wait to see what’s next in Disgardium and explore the rest of Mr Sugralinov universe.
