Unlikable characters
Revisado: 09-15-24
Storyline is predictable. The lead male character was utterly unlikeable and his voice (narration) was equally unpleasant.

Boring story telling, unlikable characters
Revisado: 01-31-24
This is a murder and child abduction mystery. Unfortunately it's told from four different perspectives with one person narrating from before the murder, one immediately following the murder and two from the present, which is 11 years later. A lot of back and forth, present to the past to the present to the other past.....confusing and annoying. Plus I didn't like any of the characters. They droned on and on about themselves. The plot seemed forgotten in lieu of their airing out their personal lives, most of which had nothing to do with the plot. So boring. I skipped parts to try and move it along. I would not recommend this book.

The narration was good, but that's it. I did not like any of the characters. I fast forwarded through parts of many chapters. I would not recommend this book.

Unrealistic fairytale
Revisado: 06-27-23
"Fall from Grace" is about a forty-something-year-old woman living a millionaire's life of privilege until her husband of many years dies unexpectedly without providing for her in his will. She is forced out of her home with only her clothes, her car, her jewelry, and an apartment in France plus she has zero job prospects. Sounds quite dreadful and actually a decent narrative could have been written with this premise, but instead Danielle Steel turns it into an utterly unbelievable fairy tale. With the greatest of luck and coincidence at every turn, the bad things that happen just don't have much punch. As a result, I never felt sorry for or connected with the main character or any of the characters for that matter.
The story also could use massive editing. The third-person narration literally repeats what was just said in the dialogue over and over again, plus rehashes the same thoughts countless times. The narration was so boring and repetitive that at times it made the audible book sound like a documentary instead of a work of fiction.
The last time I read a Danielle Steel novel was 20 years ago. If this is what her books are like today then I guess I'm still not a fan.

Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Unlikable characters
Revisado: 04-14-23
Female narration was excellent across the board. Male narration however not as good. Not sure which male narrator it was but the gasp for breath before each sentence was so annoying to listen to. Regarding the story it started off strong but then kept introducing one depressing character after another. The ending was also depressing. For once I am not sad to leave the characters behind upon finishing the book. I didn't like a single one.

Historia
Anna-Marie Halsey loves her job as a regular on the soap opera Southern Heat almost as much as she loves living the LA lifestyle: clubbing and partying and casually dating gorgeous men - most recently powerhouse agent Josh Rios. When Anna-Marie starts feeling more-than-casual about Josh - her signature cue to break things off - she finds a much-needed excuse to get away: a family reunion in small-town Wyoming.

I loved the first book "The Extra". The narration, the story, the writing were great. It was a no-brainer, therefore, to move on to book 2, "The Girlfriend Stage. Book 2, however, is surprisingly terrible in comparison to book 1. The female narrator is overly dramatic and whiny and ruins pretty much every single scene. The male narrator's cadence is too slow, but at least provides a break from the female narration. The story also has problems. Anne Marie and her agent boyfriend are in her small hometown. Anne Marie is dealing with her low self-esteem and makes ridiculous bad choices and then whines and laments the consequences. The number of times that Anne Marie and a man are naked in her hometown and in front of her family and others is pathetic. Plus Anne Marie is so needy in this book. She seemed much more independent and stronger in the first book. I don't care for this Anne Marie at all. The themes explored in this book could have been accomplished without AnneMarie having to become so needy and unlikeable. I noticed that some people (especially readers) seem to think the book was funny, however I don't believe I even cracked a smile. Maybe I should have read this one instead of listened, it's possible the narration squeezed out any possibility of humor.
