Historia
Mercer Mann, a popular writer from Camino Island, is back on the beach, marrying her boyfriend, Thomas, in a seaside ceremony. Bruce Cable, infamous owner of Bay Books, performs the wedding. Afterward, Bruce tells Mercer that he has stumbled upon an incredible story. Mercer desperately needs an idea for her next novel, and Bruce now has one. The true story is about Dark Isle, a sliver of a barrier island not far off the North Florida coast. It was settled by freed slaves three hundred years ago, and their descendants lived there until 1955, when the last one was forced to leave.

1 hour is all I could handle of Whoopi Goldberg. Who the heck made the decision to have this imbecile narrate this book. Totally ruined a good series

Historia
Joseph is having a comically rough year. His job sucks, his relationship ended, he’s plagued by prank phone calls, and he nearly lost his father to the virus. When his best friend asks him to donate his sperm so that she can start a family, Joseph just can’t understand why anyone would bring a child into this calamitous world. The only bright spot is an intriguing new online relationship with an attractive internet “daddy” that has him rethinking his isolation until a series of revelations have him facing even bigger decisions about his future.

Historia
The idyllic quiet of a picture postcard English village is shattered when a book club member is murdered by his former student and lover. But why would anyone kill a retired English teacher, a pillar of his community? Perhaps the answer lies in the trail of writing that he, and his killer, left behind: diaries, poems and novels. Documentary maker Gillian Pachter lifts the lace curtain to reveal a secret wedding, sordid affairs, drug abuse and psychological torture. She enlists the help of James, a former student of the victim, to try and uncover the truth.

Woke to point of sympathizing with a pedophile
Revisado: 04-25-22
Low-life oxygen thief meets gullible pedophile. The author goes to painful lengths to legitimize a worthless literature degree and poetry in general. As if that wasn't bad enough, she goes on to try and gain sympathy and understanding for a predator pedophile embedded in boarding school.

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

There are no new world-shaking leadership techniques here, only really well described and applied one. This is an excellent follow-up to Kotter's "Leading Change". Every leader, regardless of rank in the organization should read "Extreme Ownership". Great book!

Fun Story Wasted
Revisado: 09-24-15
What did you like best about Lafitte's Treasure? What did you like least?
The plot was interesting enough to keep me listening. The narration was horribly distracting.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not sure; I may need to re-listen to Dan Brown or Steve Berry.
What didn’t you like about A. T. Al Benelli’s performance?
The narrator made the two protagonists sound like a couple of imbeciles. I kept expecting Eddie to say "Tell me 'bout the rabbits, George", and the female protagonist sounded like a really bad impersonation of a 7 year girl that's never left the house. The cadence was more suited for a first grade teacher reading Curious George to her class.
Did Lafitte's Treasure inspire you to do anything?
Yes, to never again buy Corso book.
Any additional comments?
The story was interesting enough; Dan Brown would've had a field day with this plot, but this story seemed rushed and almost insultingly simple. There are also blatant inconsistencies and highly improbable legal interpretations that make the story hard to swallow.

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

Horrible Excuse for a John Grisham Novel
Revisado: 11-10-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who doesn't mind wasting a credit
Has Gray Mountain turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, not at all, but I hope this isn't the direction John Grisham is taking.
What three words best describe Catherine Taber’s performance?
First Grade teacher
What character would you cut from Gray Mountain?
All of them; none had anything to contribute to the story.
Any additional comments?
Unlike other John Grisham novels, this one came short on every point. It took over 23 chapters to develop the feeble plot and failed to deliver on it. No closure, it's as though they forgot to print the last chapters. My hope is that this is some lame ploy by the publishers to launch a series. I, for one, am not impressed.
