I’ve listened to this audiobook four times. It is hands-down the best audiobook I have ever heard. It’s like a one-man stage play. Will Smith has changed the literary game with this one.

The only thing I disliked about this audiobook is that it ended. I did not want it to end. I wanted to it to continue forever and ever. I hope Will Smith comes out with many more books.

I absolutely fell in love with the narrator! She brought the story to life. I listened to this book while driving in my car. I looked forward to any car ride so that I could hear what happened next.

I definitely thought the plot could have been better.
Yet, it still satisfied my craving for a good audiobook!

It’s Like Listening to a Train Wreck That You Can’t Turn Off

Listening to 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 by Kent Babb is like, listening to a train wreck. It was very difficult to hear, but I couldn’t stop listening.

I like AIlen Iverson. I enjoyed watching him play for the Sixers. Back in the Micheal Jordan era, I was a Chicago Bulls fans. But when the Bulls came to Philly, and I went to see them play at the Spectrum Sports Complex, I always elected to proudly wear my Iverson #3 black, red & white jersey. That’s how much I enjoyed him as a player.

Unfortunately, I have mixed emotions about this audiobook. Although it’s technically a good audiobook, I didn’t want to hear the worse of Allen. The author paints him as an alcoholic, bankrupt, wife abuser, that has very little respect for anyone other than his mother. I found the stories disheartening. Some of them pissed me off. But at the same time, I know there is some validity to what the author shares. As a former Atlantic City casino dealer, I remember the days when Allen used to gamble in AC. On a few occasions he got so drunk that he urinated right on the casino floor. There were also times when Allen and his crew got into altercations with other gamblers. The entire crew was belligerent.

The audiobook is narrated by Michael Butler Murray. What’s interesting is that Murray sounds like a sports commentator. There’s a certain awkwardness in his delivery. Similar to the way it would sound if Dick Vitale narrated 𝘉𝘰𝘺𝘻 𝘕 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘰𝘥. Some may say his voice is not a good fit to share Allen Iverson’s hardcore life story. However, I found it oddly satisfying.

Overall, as much as I hate to say it, this is a good audiobook.

5⭐️s for 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐲 by @iamdishan

About two weeks ago I was in search of a good audiobook to listen to. I’m not a big reader of fiction. So when I decide to dive into the fictional world, I like to read books about relationships. After reading the synopsis for this book, I was instantly drawn in.

𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨:
Wealthy pastor Byran Ward has his sights set on becoming the pastor for Cornerstone Baptist Church. Byran meets all the requirements for getting his dream position in a mega church, except for one. He doesn’t have a wife. Doing whatever it takes to obtain this prestigious position, he makes gold digger Allyson Chase an offer she can not refuse. He asks her to become his wifey. Both Byran and Allyson agree their marriage nothing more than a business agreement, no love involved. And they agree to keep it that way.

However, when Allyson begins to develop feelings for her husband, she soon realizes money can’t buy happiness.

𝙈𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬:
I really enjoyed this story. It was very well written and the narrator Mishi LaChappelle put on an awesome performance! She really brought each character to life.

The audiobook is 7 hours and 56 minutes, which is a good length for me. The story moves at a good, steady pace.

I think this is a great book for #bookclubs because it raises so many great discussion questions. Such as:
1. Is it ever ok to marry for money even if both parties agree?

2. Did Allyson really learn her lesson about marrying for money or did she simply level up?

3. Would you stay married to a man if he got another woman pregnant?

4. Would you ever remarry your husband after a divorce?

5. Should adult children have a say so in their parents relationships?

6. Is there a difference between a wife and a wifey?

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐲 delivered everything I was looking for when I chose to listen to this audiobook. It did not disappoint at all! This is the first book I’ve by this author. I definitely plan to read more of her work.

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
Ruth Ann Sumner and San Winters are best friends that work together at Smiddy's Dry Cleaners. Unhappy with their jobs and relationships both women have dreams of living better lives. When a set of unforeseen events take place, each woman is faced with decisions that can ultimately change their lives forever.

𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 is a well crafted novel that kept my interest from beginning to end. The story tackles serious issues women often face in life and love such as domestic violence, infidelity and baby mama drama. Although the topics are deep, the mood of the book is not heavy.

What I like most about this story is the bond between San and Ruth Ann. They go hard for each other. I found their sisterhood rather touching. And although they didn’t always make the best decisions, I was still rooting for both women to win. I thought they deserved it, and relished in the idea that true friendship would conquer all.

There were a few unexpected twists in the plot that I did not see coming. These unexpected turns made for great reading. The story moved at a good pace. Never a dull moment. No unnecessary scenes, or unnecessary words. The plot was precise.

The book is narrated by Black Mermaid. I didn’t find her voice fitting for this particular book. She sounded a little too old to me.

Aside from that I enjoyed this book. It is a well written novel that affirms the eternal importance of friendship.

Let me just say that Backman is brilliant! 𝗔𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 is a combination of comedy, drama and mystery all rolled into one amazing story. This is a character driven novel with a compelling backstory! The way Backman unexpectedly ties the characters together is genius. Every time I pressed play on my #audible app, I stopped everything I was doing to give this book my complete undivided attention.

And the narrator?!...OMG she did a freakin’ phenomenal job👏🏽! Marin Ireland didn’t just read the book, she gave an outstanding performance that kept me totally invested. She brought each character to life.

If you are in search of a great audiobook, I highly recommend this one. It was fun and engaging. I’m sad it has come to an end.

Before I begin, allow me to pay my respects to Prodigy. May you Rest In Peace my brotha. You are missed!

I love me some Mobb Deep. It’s hard to be a fan of hip-hop and not love Mobb Deep. Although I love their music, unfortunately, this audiobook wasn’t a big hit for me.

I give it 3 1/2 out of 5⭐️s. At almost 14 hours long, it took me a month to finish listening to it. I mostly listened while driving in my car and, on my morning walks.

The disconnect for me was that I thought it was too long for no reason. Some of the stories were drawn out and definitely could have been shortened. Also, Prodigy talked a lot about women. I wasn’t interested in hearing about that topic. When he wasn’t discussing women, he was talking about fighting. It seemed as if after every Mobb Deep concert, he got into a fight.

I appreciated when he shared stories about getting his life and health in order. Unfortunately, this was a small portion of the book.

There is one story I found hilarious. It’s a story about a UFO shining a light over Prodigy’s house and into his bedroom. It wasn’t the fact that he saw a UFO that was funny, it was his response to his girlfriend when she demanded that he go get their children that made me laugh...hard.

What surprised me was all the not so good things Prodigy had to say about his partner Havoc. I wonder how Havoc felt after reading this book!

He shared a few stories about living with sickle cell. Which I thought was the cause of his untimely death. It wasn’t until recently I learned the cause of his death was accidental choking.

Overall, if you are a true Mobb Deep fan, I think you will appreciate this book. Prodigy is the narrator, which is cool. It was nice hearing his voice, as he shared his story.

Summery ~ How To Stop Feeling Like Sh*t is a self-improvement book for women. The basis of this book is to help you recognize your negative habits, and with the tools Andrea Owens provides, allow you develop new more positive behaviors. Some of the advice includes how to stop listening to your bitchy inner critic and catastrophizing. Each chapter addresses a different topic. The chapters are short with a good amount of straight to the point insight. Some of the chapters include:

* Being and Asshole to Yourself: Learn to Manage Your Inner Critic
* Profectionism Prision: Self-Destruction at Its Finest
*Nobody Likes a Slacker: The Downside of Overachieveing

My Thoughts ~ I connected with a lot of what the author discussed. She did a good job of touching on the real issues we as women face throughout our lives. She also offers some good and practical advice. However, much of her advice was not new to me. I guess being an avid reader, coupled with being a women of a certain age, I’m already filled with mounds insight.

Although the audiobook has some good information, I had a hard time staying focused. I couldn’t get past the author’s voice. It was too high pitched for me to listen to for an extended period of time. I definitely should have read the hardcopy instead of listening to the audiobook. I am 100% sure I would have liked it more had I read it to myself.

Overall I think How to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t is a good book for someone in their twenties and just learning about womanhood, OR someone new to self-help books for women. It’s an entertaining book that just may help you a develop a better way of coping with self-sabotaging behaviors.

“To start a new chapter you gotta turn the page on the last one.” - Gucci Mane

Let me start by saying, Neil Martinez-Belkin has done it again! Another 5⭐️ memoir👏🏽. I love his writing style. Smooth, thorough & direct!

Before listening to this audiobook I knew close to nothing about Gucci Mane. Sure, I’ve listened to his music, but that was about it. This book was perfect for someone like me. Someone that knew nothing about him, yet was interested in learning more. And more is definitely what I got!

What surprised me most about Gucci was learning just how many times he served time in jail/ prison. In every chapter he was either waiting to be sentenced, in prison, or being released from prison. But that’s what actually made this book worth listening to. Hearing how he overcame serious hurdles in life, all while continuing to move forward, made for a very action packed story. There wasn’t a dull moment!

In fact, it was while doing his last bid in prison Gucci began writing this autobiography. He never gave up on his dreams even when the odds were heavily stacked against him. One of those odds being, a thousand dollar a day lean addiction.

No one was off limits in this book. Gucci goes into great detail about his beef with Young Jezzy. He also shares stories about T.I., Waka Flaka Flame and many others.

I believe this is a good book for anyone that use their past as an excuse to not succeed in life. It doesn’t matter if you’ve struggled with an addiction, or if you have a criminal record, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane serves as proof that it is possible to overcome those obstacles and live your best life.

🎧

As for the narration, I’ve never heard Gucci Mane’s voice outside of his music. Not knowing for sure what he really sounds like worked to the narrator’s advantage. It was easy for me to pretend Gucci was the narrator. Which helped with the telling of the story.

🎧

“If you keep looking back you’re gonna to trip going forward” - Gucci’s Dad a.k.a The Orignal Gucci Mane
