Sixth Time's A Charm
Revisado: 02-28-20
Can I just say how mean people can be in these books? The amount of abuse the H/C/M families suffer in the hands of both the papz and the public leave me breathless, I swear. I feel for these families! Also, fuck the HCM Charity board of directors. Seriously. HCM makes money for charities and all thanks to the former CEO that they pushed out because he was absent during the tour. Honestly, their reasoning for pushing out Maximoff was weak. It made me so mad! /rant.
Ehgads. MARROW. I'm absolutely in love with their relationship. <3 Oh and that car accident scene? I freaking cried, ok? I cried. And IT IS NOT OKAY. And have I mentioned the softness I feel for Xander? That poor boy. He's so sad and completely loved by everyone. Unfortunately, sometimes, love isn't enough to fight the demons in someone's head.
I also can't wait to see Oscar and Jack Hyland's story. As well, Tom Cobalt's.
Anyway, what else can I say about these books? I JUST LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.

This is My Life Now
Revisado: 02-28-20
Well, Damaged Like Us had a bit of a wild ending. But I looked forward to seeing how they were going to somehow get the public behind them again. It's surreal to me how much they're loved and hated. But if there's one thing constant about these people, it's the support and love of their families regardless how damaged their respective pasts were. That's why I was a little confused why everyone could think -- least of all their parents -- that Maximoff and Jane would do what they were accused of doing towards the end of Damaged Like Us.
So the plan was to go on a Fancon; touring the continental States to meet the fans in a sort of meet and greet format. The thing is, the older siblings will have to be on the same bus, and while everyone loves each other, Charlie and Maximoff hasn't had the most amicable relationship. In fact, they hate each others' guts. I sort of understand why Charlie hates Maximoff, but I just think all the hate is all on him. Can hardly blame Moffy just because the Cobalts' and Meadows' siblings tend to seek out Maximoff's advise and friendship at every turn. On top of that, they were to travel with all their bodyguards. But of course the Hale family curse is in full effect, so chaos ensues.
While I absolutely love this installment because the MARROW ship is sailing along quite smoothly, I was not a fan of one of the things that happened. I will not mention it, but it was Christmas. The kids were bored, and missing their families quite terribly. Additionally, they all have indulgent bodyguards. Needless to say, it was cringe-worthy, if I may say so myself. #sorrynotsorry I mean, IMO, if you were professional bodyguards, doing that thing your clients asked you to do should've been a big, fat NO. *shrugs*
Regardless, I still love this installment. Especially the ending. OMG. *swoon* I so wish there's an actual Instagram post of how the MARROW ship came out so to speak. Xander also broke my heart. Love that boy and I'm looking forward to reading his story in the future.
So yes, this is my life now. I can't quite move on from these books. Sigh.

Historia
Maximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible - the 22-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth. He is certified American royalty. When he's assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who's known for "going rogue" in the security team - and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff's sexual fantasies.

Like Crack
Revisado: 02-28-20
Oh man. Thanks to Audible Escape, I stumbled upon a series that soothes my soul and gets my temperature rising in boiling increments. Since discovering this series at the beginning of the year, I have listened to the books at least 5x already. Outside of the Jane/Thatcher story line, I think I'm never going to get over how addictive this is. Literally would listen to all 4 books of the MARROW ship, then start over again. I love this series so much that I subscribed to the authors' PATREON account just so I can get my next hit.
Damaged Like Us is the beginning of the story between Maximoff Hale and Farrow Keene. They were quasi adversaries whose banter and normal dialogue exchanges seemingly oozed in sexual tension. I absolutely love how the authors portrayed their physical attributes that come off the pages viscerally -- like a noir photograph of two men who can't quite figure out whether to wrestle or to kiss. They are chemistry personified. An amalgamation of two elements that either create something beautiful or combusts into something fiery and destructible. Fortunately, theirs is the former kind of chemistry. They're so freaking hot together!
I'm a huge Marvel geek so to name a character after one of my favourite Avengers is a huge deal. As soon as I read that Maximoff is named after Quicksilver, I never looked back. I already knew this will be one of my favourite reads of all time. Not to mention Farrow Redford Keene was named after Mia Farrow and Robert Redford. Honestly, props to the Wonder Twins (DCU, i know. But heck, Maximoff is a Batman fan so I think I'm allowed.) authors for not picking out names out of a hat. Because, damnnnn.
NARRATION:
I love Maximoff's voice. He is sarcastic by nature, so the narrator absolutely nails it. He has Moffy's emotions and characterization down to pat. And while I also like Farrow's narrator, I sometimes found him a little brusque. But not going to knock him for it, because, heck, Farrow IS brusque. Either way, I thought it was a great performance.
I loved this series so much. I can't wait to have the paperback copies in my possession!

While I'm Waiting...
Revisado: 10-24-15
Perfect book to read while waiting for the 9th instalment. Ms. Jones is both generous and stingy: generous for giving us a glimpse of Reyes, and stingy for not giving us enough. Lol.

Unlikeable characters
Revisado: 11-07-14
Would you try another book from Deborah Meyler and/or Heather Wilds?
I'm not a fan of doormats, so unless Deborah's heroines can stand for themselves, then I probably wouldn't buy another one of her books. Heather Wilds' monotone voice doesn't inspire listeners. Sorry, she didn't work for me.
Would you ever listen to anything by Deborah Meyler again?
See above.
How could the performance have been better?
A little more emotions, inflections, change in tones would've helped with the narration.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger. Severe anger for the characters. Because not one of these characters showed even a speck of emotions.
Any additional comments?
Tragically bad audiobook. I want my money back.
