Historia
It’s December 1997, and a man-eating tiger is on the prowl outside a remote village in Russia’s Far East. The tiger isn’t just killing people, it’s annihilating them, and a team of men and their dogs must hunt it on foot through the forest in the brutal cold. As the trackers sift through the gruesome remains of the victims, they discover that these attacks aren’t random: The tiger is apparently engaged in a vendetta. Injured, starving, and extremely dangerous, the tiger must be found before it strikes again.

Good Story Written by a Foolish Man
Revisado: 12-03-24
The base story of a poacher getting what they deserve is interesting but the idea that any animal that lives in Asia can be saved only shows a severe lack of understanding people.

Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption II, set in 1911 and 1899, are the most-played American history video games since The Oregon Trail. Beloved by millions, they’ve been widely acclaimed for their realism and attention to detail. But how do they fare as re-creations of history? In this engaging audiobook, award-winning American history professor Tore Olsson takes up that question and more.

This man that claims to be a historian judges the past by today’s standers. At first I thought he was a yankee but he’s not even good enough for that.

Historia
The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive. These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced.

Interesting Perspectives
Revisado: 06-22-22
This is more jarring than the first book but still insanely interesting and thought provoking. For those that keep bringing up the fate of the Soviet troops, get a grip on reality. If an invader declares a war of annihilation on your country and then you defect, you should be hanged, drawn, and quartered like the disgraceful traitor you are.

U.S. planning for the invasion and military occupation of Imperial Japan began two years before the dropping of atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Hell to Pay brings to light the political and military ramifications of the enormous casualties and loss of material projected by both sides in the climatic struggle to bring the Pacific War to a conclusion through a brutal series of battles on Japanese soil.

Great if you actually like military history
Revisado: 05-20-21
I am the 11th generation to serve in the United States Navy and a great great niece of a man that never made it of the USS Arizona so I enjoy military history tremendously. I also prefer lectures because I don't need the literally equivalent of glitter and puppets to pay attention. This work is a fantastic overview of Operation Downfall and chilling to think what could have happened if the nuclear bombs had not been used.

Historia
By the time his body hung from the gallows for his crimes at Harper’s Ferry, abolitionists had made John Brown a "holy martyr" in the fight against Southern slave owners. But Northern hatred for Southerners had been long in the making. Northern rage was born of the conviction that New England, whose spokesmen and militia had begun the American Revolution, should have been the leader of the new nation. Instead, they had been displaced by Southern "slavocrats" like Thomas Jefferson. And Northern envy only exacerbated the South’s greatest fear: race war.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

One of the Worst Books I've Read

The story is so boring and predictable and the writing is atrocious. This makes Twilight look good in comparison.

Join Aaron Mahnke, the host of the popular podcast Lore, as he explores some dreadful places and the history that haunts them. Mahnke takes us to Colorado and the palatial Stanley Hotel, where wealthy guests enjoyed views of the Rocky Mountains at the turn of the 20th century - and where, decades later, a restless author would awaken from a nightmare, inspired to write one of the most revered horror novels of all time. Mahnke also crosses land and sea to visit frightful sites with their own echoes of dark deeds, horrible tragedies, and shocking evil still resounding.

Incomplete Folklore
Revisado: 08-21-20
Sarah Winchester wasn't crazy, she moved across the country with her large extended family. Large family=large house but her family moved back. I'm sure it's better for business to perpetuate that she was mad but come on.
There are so many accounts regarding the belle witch and the fact the father was molesting the oldest daughter.
I've been a fan or Lore for years but the research is either sub par or the editing is trying to spin untruths.

Historia
The story of poison is the story of power. For centuries, royal families have feared the gut-roiling, vomit-inducing agony of a little something added to their food or wine by an enemy. To avoid poison, they depended on tasters, unicorn horns, and antidotes tested on condemned prisoners. Servants licked the royal family's spoons, tried on their underpants, and tested their chamber pots. Ironically, royals terrified of poison were unknowingly poisoning themselves daily with their cosmetics, medications, and filthy living conditions.

Nothing special
Revisado: 12-29-17
This wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't anything I'd bother to recommend to anyone. The only thing not horribly predictable was that it was set in the 1970's. A bit disappointing, I was excited to read this author.

Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other. Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.
