poor narration
Revisado: 01-13-25
I really did not like this narrator he was very monotone which seems out of place especially for horror. The dialog was so cringe and some of the beginning chapters of the book really felt like the author didn't know how to get it into the book so he just shoved it anywhere. I appreciated the second half of the book. Ending felt rushed.

Historia
All Mina ever wanted was to escape her father's control. Half human, half vampire, she lived eternally torn between two worlds, never fully experiencing the pleasures of either until her father chose her as the pawn in his latest political move, gifting her to the darkly powerful and dangerously seductive Malachi Zion. Malachi is not a vampire to be trifled with. He rules with an iron fist and has a reputation for the darkest of sins. But the longer Mina spends with him, the more she realizes he's not the monster she first thought.

Constant recaps
Revisado: 08-24-24
Let's be honest you don't read a book like this for the plot. I could look past a lot of it but the constant recaps within the book itself are too much. Chapter 34 basically has a whole recap of what has happened so far. Mina is also incredibly annoying.

a little slow
Revisado: 04-03-24
I could have really gone without all the excessive descriptions of 5-7 course meals. overall it felt a little slow but I'm going to read the next one so it's still good.

she shivered
Revisado: 02-01-24
Honestly I'm really disappointed in this book. I was excited to read it after reading something else by the same author and its not even close. I only had 5 hours left and I couldn't finish it. Persephone shivers at something Hades says at least once in every chapter. Not for me.

Historia
The city of Elendhaven sulks on the edge of the ocean. Wracked by plague, abandoned by the South, stripped of industry and left to die. But not everything dies so easily. A thing without a name stalks the city, a thing shaped like a man, with a dark heart and long pale fingers yearning to wrap around throats. A monster who cannot die.

Not horror
Revisado: 11-07-23
I feel like this book had so much potential. I really liked the world building and the characters but this really is more like dark romance than it is horror. There is gore in it, which to some is horror enough I guess. But this one was just really not for me.

Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

The book that keeps twisting
Revisado: 12-24-19
the narrator did a stunning job, a lovely display of how you can put emotion into text. I caught one twist but totally missed the other one which I thought was great. 10/10 would recommend.

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

Yeah...
Revisado: 10-24-19
This book is horrible. I really don't understand how it has so many positive reviews. For every single character to be insecure, unable to communicate, and filled with shame is just beyond me. Maybe everyone feels that way and I'm the odd man out but this book was a total miss for me.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Not too keen on the music
Revisado: 11-15-16
I get that the music playing at certain points is supposed to set the mood but honestly its distracting. It's miss placed or too loud and it's just stock stuff anyway. I could have done without it.
