Same story as Starting Over at Acorn Cottage
Revisado: 03-15-25
I loved Starting over at Acorn Cottage so I bought Fly Me to Moongate Manor. The narrator is wonderful , but the story is a disappointment. Its way to similar to Acorn Cottage. I can pretty much guess how it's going to end.

Historia
Mandy, Emma, and Jill are as close as three sisters who live hundreds of miles apart can be. They grew up together on Nantucket, but Mandy is the only one that stayed. The girls are stunned when they learn about the restaurant, Mimi's Place, and the condition their grandmother added to the will, leaving the restaurant equally to Mandy, Emma, and Jill - and also to Paul, the chef for the past 12 years, and Emma's first love.

This book is very captivating and well written
Revisado: 07-27-18
I truly loved this book. I wish it had gone on but the ending is very well done. When a book makes you feel like you never want it to end is quite an accomplishment. It’s a wow human interest book about a very riveting time. Highly recommended reading.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

A wonderful story..
Revisado: 06-05-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks to be better than the print version?
The advantage of listening to an audio book is the freedom you have to continue working on a project, work, etc. However, with a book of this type, to be able to see photos of the family, and friends.... where they lived, breathed, and died really helps you identify even more with characters. Having said that, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is by far one of the most moving, warm, fascinating, and interesting books I've read in a long time and highly recommend it to everyone. The narrators Cassandra Campbell and Bahni Turpin did an excellent job and I couldn't stop listening to it. I carried my I-pad from room to room, then to the car because I didn't want to put it down. There have been a few books that I will also get the hard copy from the library to read just because some books need to be held to truly appreciate it's contents.... this is one of those.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?
The moment that was most heartbreaking, was when Henrietta was in the hospital, near the end of her life, and in so much pain.
What does Cassandra Campbell and Bahni Turpin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
?
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both.
Any additional comments?
The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks will stay with me for a long time.

It's okay, I couldn't get into it.
Revisado: 02-22-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Alaska is one of my favorite places in the world but I couldn't get into this book.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Least interesting: The storyline
What about Marguerite Gavin’s performance did you like?
Love her performance, she's a good reader, but the story just wasn't that interesting, and I actually deleted it and didn't finish the book..
Any additional comments?
Thanks anyway.

Historia
It was a crime so brutal, it changed the lives of even the most hardened homicide cops. The Haas family murders left a scar on the community nothing can erase, but everyone agrees that convicting the killer, Karl Dahl, is a start. Only Judge Carey Moore seems to be standing in the way. Her ruling that Dahl's prior criminal record is inadmissible raises a public outcry, and puts the judge in grave danger.
