Historia
Cameron Winter is troubled in heart and mind. He's plagued by memories of his time as a government operative investigating a notorious Turkish sex trafficker. The fact that the mission was left unfinished still haunts him and threatens to tear him apart. In the midst of his painful soul-searching, Winter crosses paths with an ex-flame—his first love—and the chance encounter ignites a passion he thought was long lost. But just as soon as she wanders back into Winter's life, the woman vanishes, leaving Winter scrambling to track her down.

Historia
Cameron Winter was born with the ability to recreate detailed crime scenes in his imagination and dissect the motives and encounters that produced them. And after reading a puzzling news story about a wealthy family killed in a small town in the Chicago suburbs, he can't resist the chance to apply this deductive power in the pursuit of justice for the victims. Three members of the family, along with their live-in nanny, were pulled from their burning mansion, already dead from gunshot wounds. The only survivor is a young boy whose memory of the event raises more questions than answers.

Historia
It has been proclaimed many times, but perhaps never more convincingly than now, when every news cycle seems to deliver further confirmation of a world gone mad. Is this the endgame? Author Spencer Klavan is a classicist, with a Ph.D. from Oxford, and a deep understanding of the West. His analysis: The situation is dire. But every crisis we face today, we have faced before. And we can surmount each one. Klavan brings to the West’s defense the insights of Plato, Aristotle, the Bible, and the Founding Fathers to show that in the wisdom of the past lies hope for the future.

Refreshing
Revisado: 02-23-23
A refreshing look at the world around us and the underlying truths that are ever-present and too often forgotten. The breadth of scholarship to deliver such a work in approachable language is reminiscent of Lewis.
The written word is enriching. If you have the means, get the audio book. Hearing the written words spoken by the author is more fulfilling and, in this case, Spencer’s voice is a pleasurable treat for the ears and soul.
The only error I discovered is when he cites a little known author named, Andrew Klavan (no E’s), but he called this man his father. We all know there is no relation.

Klavan’s typical excellence read with Barr’s terrific range. Mystery, scholarship and philosophy combine in the second episode of Cameron Winter’s mystery series.

Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it.

Sentimental
Revisado: 07-16-19
A sentimental story that tugs at the heart. However, there are a few moments where the emotions are used to make a policy argument disguised as wisdom. In my opinion some of the conclusions are dubious. Especially the ideas about ‘our’ culture. Maybe I’ll think differently when I’m dying.
It’s a nice story though.

Historia
“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The story is ok. The use of "Double Vision" to describe the Force was distracting to me. I did not love the interactions between Vader/Anakin and Thrawn.

Historia
The final and most personal work from Pulitzer Prize - winning author and historian Will Durant - discovered 32 years after his death - is a message of insight for everyone who has sought meaning in life or the council of a wise friend in navigating life's journey. From 1968 to 1978, Will Durant made four public allusions to the existence of Fallen Leaves. One, in 1975, hinted at its contents: "a not very serious book that answers the questions of what I think about government, life, death, and God."

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 02-11-16
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Durant's prose is still refreshing and enjoyable; however, his thoughts are incomplete and often contradictory.
