Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Exquisitely written and narrated
Revisado: 04-05-25
How do you write a review for a book that took you from the depths of hell in war, to the joy of love and true, unconditional, lifesaving relationships? So many times I feared McGrath wouldn’t make it to the end of the story, grateful she did. Exquisite writing. A story every woman should read about, so we can do better in supporting future generations. As a military mom, I haven’t always understood my son’s need to drop everything to go to the side of one of his fellow Marines. I get it now and am grateful for the camaraderie they have and that he is a true “Barb” or “Ethel” to his friends.
Kudos to the narrator, you knocked it out of the park. You had me on the edge of my seat for 12 hours

Scottish Dreams
Revisado: 03-21-25
I read others reviews prior to listening and feel they were pretty harsh.
This is a short, fun, fantasy story set in the Scottish Highlands. I enjoyed it, especially the narrator. What a job to have to perform Scottish, English, Italian and New York accents! She did a great job, struggling only with Nee York.
The story could have been much more developed but it was an interesting read just the same.

Riveting!
Revisado: 10-17-24
Where to begin? Loved the story, loved the way the author broke it up by character and date. The reader did a pretty great job individualizing each character with its own sound. I highly recommend reading this book! Maybe there could be a sequel?

Sharing his life, changed mine
Revisado: 06-20-24
Where to begin? I will keep this review as simple as possible. If you are looking to learn more about Christ than you could ever learn by attending church, read this book. If you’re interested in hearing how Christ and the gospel moved, shifted and transformed a person, read this book. If you’d like to take your beliefs to a different level, read this book. And if you love hearing of others insights, miracles and spiritually defining experiences, read this book. I’m so grateful that John took the time to listen to the spirit and promptings in a way I never knew possible, and shared his story with us. Sharing his story, has changed my perspective in many positive ways.

In this recorded account of near-death experiences, we learn about the miracles of the millennium, the return of the Ten Tribes, the building of the New Jerusalem and temple, and many other astonishing events long prophesied in scripture but never before described in such vivid detail. Visions of Glory is a mesmerizing and fascinating read that you will not be able to put down.

Life / Perspective Changing
Revisado: 12-12-23
This is not my first read of Visions of Glory, listening to it this time I feel like I got much more out of it than the last time.
Visions of Glory can be terrifying at times but I’m grateful for the opportunity to see into Spencer’s visions and experiences, it helps me look at this world and day to day circumstances so differently. Reading this book at this stage of my life has increased my desire to know the Lord’s will for me and to live more fully as He would have me.
I’m grateful to Spencer and the author John for sharing his story with the world, it can be truly life changing. I also very much enjoyed the additional information at the end of the book, that shared others visions, and or experiences.
Visions of glory makes clear the quote that I heard once, ‘we are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience’. I highly recommend this book.

A slow start but a strong finish
Revisado: 11-21-23
Initially, I was disappointed for the first few chapters of this book, in comparison to the other four books. But it redeemed itself in the last segments. I loved the twists and turns at the very end. The narrator was OK, but not great, and it unfortunately portrayed the main character poorly. Once you get past that, and make it to the fourth quarter, the story really takes off. I hope you enjoy it.

I enjoyed every minute of this 3rd book in the saga, the only distraction was the change in readers. The voices didn’t match the characters as they had previously been presented, sorry.

I’m not much of a fiction reader, but I absolutely love Sharon Shinn’s books and look forward to the next one! This is the third series I’ve read from her, and they just don’t disappoint. They hold my attention and make me want to finish the book unlike other authors. Keep them coming Sharon. And thank you.

Historia
Just Ask the Universe is not a book of New Age gobbledygook filled with empty promises. Angels won't fly from above and touch you while you're listening. You will not be asked to practice unusual or tedious rituals. There will be no preaching or sage advice and there will most certainly be no channeling of your inner chakras or dressing like Friar Tuck. Just Ask the Universe is a realistic guide to personal development.
