Very sweet story, wished for more!
Revisado: 06-10-24
Although an adult, I love a good story regardless of age group ( a plus with mystical creatures too). Lived the heroine Ember and the little bit of her back story too.
There’s was a beautiful title years ago called ‘The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles’ and this is completely in line with that quality. Leaves a reader wanting more.

Historia
Filled with sharply drawn, emotionally powerful senses, Walk Through Fire traces the hardships Sheila faced in her marriage and her professional life. Despite her skills as a violinist and music teacher, as well as her obvious entrepreneurial talent, she had to fight to overcome self-doubt and fears of failure. Sheila vividly details her struggles, including battling institutional racism, losing a child, suffering emotional abuse in her thirty-three-year marriage, and plunging into a deep depression with her divorce. And yet, out of that pain came renewed purpose and meaning.

Inspirational and heart-felt
Revisado: 02-24-24
Ms Johnson is a strong example of perseverance and grace in the face of some downtimes in her life. Inspiring to hear how her personal skills and experiences along the way allowed her to construct her own beautiful life. Although she described not always feeling strong at all times, she worked through every situation. I’ve recommended her book to my adult daughter who I hope will enjoy Ms Johnson’s life story as well. I cried happy and sad tears a few times in feeling for various parts of her story. Well written!

Enjoyed the next installment in this series. Well written and not too syrupy, interesting local area tidbits and a bit of mystery thrown in. Ending was unexpected and sweet.

Story was very sweet and engaging, great narration
Revisado: 06-01-22
Admittedly, I am unlikely to dislike anything by Jenny Colgan and I relish starting a new series from her with new characters but her familiar writing style.
Great way to start the summer in my opinion

Historia
Desperate to escape from London, single mother Zoe wants to build a new life for herself and her four-year-old son Hari. She can barely afford the crammed studio apartment on a busy street where shouting football fans keep them awake all night. Hari’s dad, Jaz, a charismatic but perpetually broke DJ, is no help at all. But his sister, Surinder, comes to Zoe’s aid, hooking her up with a job as far away from the urban crush as possible: a bookshop on the banks of Loch Ness. And there’s a second job to cover housing: Zoe will be an au pair at a castle in the Scottish Highlands.

A sweet segue from Book 1 in the series
Revisado: 09-29-20
Jenny Colgan continues her story in the fictional Kieran Fife with a different set of characters who tie into the first ones from Book 1. At a certain point I knew where the story might be going but it kept me on my toes and was delightful all along the way. I wanted to step into the Urquart family estate library, which sounded magical.
very much enjoyed the voices of the narrator who did the accents delightfully!

Martin Short takes you on a rich, hilarious, and occasionally heartbreaking ride through his life and times, from his early years in Toronto as a member of the fabled improvisational troupe Second City to the all-American comic big time of Saturday Night Live and memorable roles in movies such as ¡Three Amigos! and Father of the Bride.

A wonderful story teller telling his wonderful story
Revisado: 09-23-15
I was riveted from the get go, I don't know what it was about Martin Short's delivery but I found it really engaging. Bring Canadian myself only helped since the hometown references were nice reminders.
His stories about his early years surprised me with references to how many actors, comedians etc were starting out around the same time as he was. The personal parts of his family life were sweet and refreshingly normal, no weird flashy 'Hollywood' there. During his narration of the last chapters which dealt with his wife's passing, I found them quite emotional.
His take on his attitude towards life in general was wonderful.
