Historia
It’s been 20 years since 9/11, two decades since the United States was attacked on home soil and set out to make the guilty pay with their lives. In the shadows, the enemy has been patient - learning, and adapting. And the enemy is ready to strike again. A new president offers hope to a country weary of conflict. He’s a young, popular, self-made visionary…but he’s also a man with a secret.

Not his best book yet but its still a page turner
Revisado: 04-24-21
This one was not bad and a little terrifying in a lot of ways. I didn't love the not so suttle anti immigrant push in this one....and I'm fairly conservative but America is great because we welcome people from totalitarian countries but maybe I misinterpreted Car's meaning. Still one of my favorite writers.

I read these books as a teen and I hated to read at that time. The series is still amazing.

A great adventure
Revisado: 07-19-20
I loved this book, to be honest,, it's taken me a while to finish it. it's a slow read in the beginning bit things pick up and its a lot more complex then I thought it would be. James has a hell of story to tell.

Jack Carr never disappoints
Revisado: 06-23-20
I loved it, it may not be as good as the other two novels but it still stands up against any book in this genre. Jack Carr is the most entertaining author I have read in years.

Historia
Shanghai, 1930s; it was a haven for outlaws from all over the world: a place where pasts could be forgotten, fascism and communism outrun, names invented, and fortunes made - and lost. “Lucky” Jack Riley was the most notorious of those outlaws. An ex-US Navy boxing champion, he escaped from prison and rose to become the Slots King of Shanghai. “Dapper” Joe Farren - a Jewish boy who fled Vienna’s ghetto - ruled the nightclubs. This is the story of their rise to power, their downfall, and the trail of destruction left in their wake.

Mesmerizing look at Old Shanghai
Revisado: 03-26-20
I have always loved Paul French's books on China, the only real author that I connect with as a historian and former ex-pat in Shanghai and Beijing. City of Devils. like his other books is a masterpiece of historical storytelling. The story is a heavily researched look into like in pre-war Shanghai. I enjoyed this book as much as I did Midnight in Peking.
