Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Grateful for this incredible book. This performance is so amazing, even when the empathy you feel for the characters is churned in your guts. Hopelessness is real but we carry on and reclaim good and love.

Historia
John Rain has disappeared to Brazil to escape the killing business and the enemies encircling him in Japan. But the CIA isn't willing to lose its premier "natural causes" contract killer, and they force Rain to take on a high-risk assignment: eliminate a ruthless arms dealer operating in Southeast Asia. The upside? Financial, of course, along with the ongoing chimera of moral redemption. But first, Rain will have to survive the downside: a second assassin zeroing in on the target; the target's consort, an alluring and dangerous woman with an agenda of her own.

Intense!
Revisado: 02-28-22
John Rain is not a guy you’d have in your own life but from this cozy armchair, he’s very interesting. The qualities you think of a serial killer (thoughtless, unfeeling) don’t completely apply here. He’s complex and simple, he’s just 20 steps ahead of everyone around him. A mind like that if given different opportunities early in life would have made a completely different character. Who wants a serial dentist or librarian?!
It’s uncomfortable at times but you cannot stop reading or listening to Barry Eisler.

Another audio book that I’ve re-listened to several times during the past year.
Good narration by Gary Furlong, adds an international vibe that conveys the scope of influences.
Great history lesson, finally understood where all that stuff came from when I was a kid!

A Go-To For All Time
Revisado: 06-19-18
What’s not to like? The casting of course is a perfect compliment to a wild story which becomes clearer and clearer to both Poirot and the listener. Rich in detail and highly engaging start from the beginning or drop in randomly. You’ll never be disappointed.

Historia
It was a dark and stormy night when Mary Crane glimpsed the unlit neon sign announcing the vacancy at the Bates Motel. Exhausted, lost, and at the end of her rope, she was eager for a hot shower and a bed for the night. Her room was musty, but clean, and the manager seemed nice, if a little odd.

More detail than the movie
Revisado: 07-27-17
I liked the narration, Paul Michael Garcia has a voice that is a perfect balance of clarity, pitch, and timing. It keeps you engaged and adds to the writing, keeps the story moving along (as opposed to being a distraction).
Oh, and this is a great, original story!

In this Hugo Award-winning classic, Enoch Wallace is an ageless hermit, striding across his untended farm as he had done for over a century, still carrying the gun with which he had served in the Civil War. But what his neighbors must never know is that, inside his unchanging house, he meets with a host of unimaginable friends from the farthest stars.

The characters are so good, well-written, you really enjoy thinking about them separate of the story, or you can continue to imagine the story beyond the ending. I can't wait to re-listen to this.

Historia
Before the movie, this is the novel that gave life to Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John, Hot Lips Houlihan, Frank Burns, Radar O'Reilly, and the rest of the gang that made the 4077th MASH like no other place in Korea or on earth. The doctors who worked in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals (MASH) during the Korean War were well trained but, like most soldiers sent to fight a war, too young for the job. In the words of the author, "a few flipped their lids, but most of them just raised hell, in a variety of ways and degrees."

You'll love this book more than Movie/TV
Revisado: 11-27-16
This is the real story and more enjoyable because of the back stories for all of the characters you know because of the show or movie. It's almost like being in the room with the narrator and the characters as they include you in on their brutal trip to Korea.
