Historia
Deep in the African rain forest, near the legendary ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, an expedition of eight American geologists are mysteriously and brutally killed in a matter of minutes. Ten thousand miles away, Karen Ross, the Congo Project Supervisor, watches a gruesome video transmission of the aftermath: a camp destroyed, tents crushed and torn, equipment scattered in the mud alongside dead bodies - all motionless except for one moving image - a grainy, dark, man-shaped blur.

Story is good, narration not so much
Revisado: 12-28-24
I have enjoyed the story, but this was a poor choice of narrator. Her imitations of male voices is grating, and the fact that no one corrected her before pronouncing “consortium” as cun-sor-shum a dozen times is just wrong. No one had her back? To be fair, she does have a nice female voice.

Historia
This 1872 sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland finds Carroll's inquisitive heroine in a fantastic land where everything is reversed. Whereas the first book has the deck of cards as a theme, this book is loosely based on a game of chess, played on a giant chessboard with fields for squares. Alice encounters talking flowers, madcap kings and queens, and strange mythological characters when she becomes a pawn in a bizarre chess game.

Performance was a little crazy, too much shouting
Revisado: 04-24-24
I realize the story itself is crazy, but the performance was bizarre. A lot of shouting, which I couldn’t enjoy.

Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

A little too Leftist for my taste
Revisado: 03-09-24
It had such promise. Such possibility. Seemed like a good plot that I could enjoy, but every time the leftist propaganda was belched forth I was so irritated. Was it necessary? I almost stopped listening so many times. Leave that crap out and you won’t alienate half of the potential listeners. Sad face.

Historia
I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

the Source Material for a Story I've loved for a couple years
Revisado: 12-18-23
I'm extremely biased, but I adore this story, and it has been extremely fun hearing the source material and attempting to match it with the character designs I know from the comic. I fell in love with the cast rather quickly, and am excited to hear the rest, and hopefully go further than where the comic has been.

Historia
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The story of these two brilliant women who made waves in the scientific community but still had time for a friendship, it just touches me deeply. It was written so well and performed impeccably.

Historia
After the loss of his parents, young Jack Thatch first met Stella as a child - this cryptic little girl of eight with dark hair and darker eyes, sitting alone on a bench in the cemetery clutching her favorite book. The body of a man found in an alley, every inch of his flesh horribly burned, yet his clothing completely untouched. For Detective Faustino Brier, this wasn't the first, and he knew it wouldn't be the last. Isolated and locked away from the world in a shadowy lab, a little boy known only as Subject "D" waits, grows, learns. He's permitted to speak to no one.

Didn't want it to end!!!!
Revisado: 05-10-20
I love this book so much. All this talk of it being too long, I completely disagree. I was fearing the end only because I want it to just keep going!
J.D. Barker's writing is so enjoyable and I give much props to the narrators. Poor presentation has made me actually return audiobooks in the past. These guys were great.

Historia
Joseph Conrad's searing tale of one of the strangest and most memorable journeys ever taken. Quite simply the scariest book ever written, this is a searing tale of one of the strangest and most memorable journeys ever undertaken - to the heart of a geographical and psychological wilderness from which no-one returns unscarred. For this isn't simply a journey up an uncharted river into a geographical wilderness; rather, it's a trip deep into our collective subconscious.

Great narrator, hard-to-follow story.
Revisado: 01-06-19
All of the other options for readings of this book had horrible ratings of the narrators, so I can definitely confirm this one had a very good narrator, but the story itself is so hard to follow without listening to it twice just to understand what's going on.
