Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

Very Good Book
Revisado: 03-13-22
I loved this book however it was extremely sad in some parts as is some our country’s history. It also showed sincere love regardless of age and color. I plan to listen to the second book.

Really Enjoyed
Revisado: 12-10-21
I enjoyed this book. It really highlights that we all have purpose even when we don’t realize it and have made mistakes. Just be open to people. They probably aren’t what we originally see. I also liked how it integrated a 12 step program. I would recommend.

Not sure I want to finish
Revisado: 11-01-21
This book has so many great reviews however, I don’t care for the book at all. I’ve tried to like but I’m just not liking it. I think it’s slow and I find myself wanting it to hurry up and end. I’ve been more than fair, I’m 16 chapters in. Ugh. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Loved This Book!
Revisado: 10-06-21
I loved this book! It made me think about how I see people and how we only see what they want us to see. Everyone has a story, a past. It also made be cry at the end which I hate doing. I highly recommend it!!

Really Good
Revisado: 09-13-21
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how mental illness and health were put in a more positive light as the story went on. We definitely need more of that! It showed that recovery from dysfunctional childhood is possible even if the book is fictional. I also enjoyed the performance of the readers. I would gladly recommend this book.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-23-21
I felt this was just too rosey. I read and listen to a lot of books on WWII and none of them have been this nice and positive. I don’t want heartbreak but I do want realistic and this didn’t have that feel at all. I finally fast forwarded through the last two chapters. I wouldn’t buy it again or recommend it. There are too many other novels that I think are much better.
