Superficial
Revisado: 11-27-24
I echo the sentiments of other reviewers with regard to the book being read by the author. Although it might be appropriate for an author to read his own work, a professional reader with a clearer voice and engaging delivery would have made this more enjoyable.
The story itself is superficial and choppy and does not delve into deeper character development. I almost felt like I was hearing an abridged version, but of course this was completely unabridged. Many obvious questions are left unanswered as the story unfolds, leaving the reader unfulfilled.

Historia
Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy - it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he's assigned, he'll be in violation of Catch-22.

When Mr. Earnshaw brings a black-haired foundling child into his home on the Yorkshire moors, he little imagines the dramatic events which will follow. The passionate relationship between Cathy Earnshaw and the foundling, Heathcliff, is a story of love, hate, pity, and retribution, the effects of which reverberate throughout the succeeding generations.

dark, depressing and thought-provoking
Revisado: 01-02-24
I used a credit for this version instead of the free audible version since the narration is better. Emily Bronte is a great writer and this book should be required reading for anyone interested in writing as a hobby or career. That said, the characters are all dysfunctional and unappealing. Heathcliff needed a good beat-down.

Historia
Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Something for everyone
Revisado: 01-02-24
This was an enjoyable book and my only criticism would be that any book discussing science is bound to eventually become dated it no updates are done. This book is nearly 20 years old and thus many areas don't reflect the most recent changes in the various disciplines covered in the book. Nevertheless, there is much to gain either as a review of information previously learned or uncovering new information from a branch of science not well-known to the reader. Since this book provides an overview of many different fields, it may provide the reader with enough incentive to explore another area in more depth, in my case with anthropology.

Historia
Here is the story of how, beginning well before the advent of machine production in the 1780s, these men captured ancient trades and skills in Asia, combined them with the expropriation of lands in the Americas and the enslavement of African workers to crucially recast the disparate realms of cotton that had existed for millennia. We see how industrial capitalism then reshaped these worlds of cotton into an empire, and how this empire transformed the world.

What happened to the editor?
Revisado: 11-02-23
The story of cotton could have been easily and interestingly told in about 4-6 hours but this 20 hour borefest was full of redundancy and dull content. The problem with the author is that he does not know who his audience is. Who does he think wants to hear the minutia that he dishes out? I stuck with it to the bitter end, but I don’t recommend it for others.

Dry but fascinating
Revisado: 11-02-23
This book reads like a dry technical manual, which is basically what it is, but it gives very good details about the whole process of getting to the moon and getting back to earth. Because it is so technically oriented however, it is not an easy read and if listening on audible, you need to have the book available to refer to the photographs for clarity.

Polls reveal that 85 percent of Americans believe there was a conspiracy behind Lee Harvey Oswald. Some even believe Oswald was entirely innocent. In this encyclopedic, absorbing audiobook, Vincent Bugliosi shows how the public has come to believe such lies about the day that changed the course of history. Bugliosi has devoted almost 20 years of his life to this project, and is determined to show that, despite the overwhelming popular perception, Oswald killed Kennedy and acted alone.

Pure logic
Revisado: 11-02-23
This book is so good that my only regret is that the Audible presentation is abridged and thus we don’t get all of the stellar presentation unless you read it. Still what you do get is comprehensive, logical, and unequivocally persuasive.
No one with a rational mind, can read this tome, and think anything other than Oswald was a lone misanthrope with delusions of grandeur, and not somebody stable enough to be involved in a conspiracy.

In You Can’t Joke About That, Kat Timpf shows why much of the way we talk about sensitive subjects is wrong. We’ve created all the wrong rules. We push ourselves into unnecessary conflicts when we should feel like we’re all in this together. When someone says “you can’t joke about that,” what they really mean is “this is a subject that makes people sad or angry.”

Average
Revisado: 06-17-23
Nearly everyone reading this book, likely did so because they enjoy Kat on Gutfeld. So it was somewhat of a letdown completing this book because it wasn’t particularly insightful nor did it introduce any new revelations during these years of tumult and uncertainty. Chapter 5 was the notable exception.

A pleasant read
Revisado: 04-29-23
This is a light read, and not really a biography but a collection of mini narratives covering the show or Alex’s life. He is the epitome of a gentleman, and I wanted to honor him and know a little bit more about him by choosing this book.
Ken does a nice job reading most of this book but I occasionally had to remind myself that the story was about Alex and not Ken since they are both equally familiar to me.
