Better than Luke Daniels version

For those who have encountered the completely perplexing issue of the last dang book in this otherwise great series being voiced by Luke Daniels instead of Vikas Adam, and like me ended up returning said last book because the disjointed narration was too much to deal with, and still enjoy the book; then this full cast adaptation, while not a Soundbooth Theater quality production, it was none the less a sufficiently better quality production for me to at least finally finish this book series.

It could have been better I think if not for the abridging done via narrator, which is why it's 7 hours instead of 10, which leads to a bit of disjointed story flow at first, but after the first half hour or so I got used to the difference and was able to enjoy the story and finally finish this epic saga without being distracted by the narration.

Note: it helped that it had been over a year since I listened to book 4, so if you are purchasing this to finish the series, I would recommend that you wait at least a month or two, so you don't have the Vikas Adam character voices' fresh in your mind.

Though not the best story or performance, the unique Space Opera story line made this a throughly enjoyable listen.

For those who are a fan of Operation Dunkirk and other WW2 stories/movies this series is absolutely for you!

Taking deep cues from History Rain of Fire delivers a great story that delivers something textbooks just quite can't, the personal imputus that is the life of a solider or civilian caught up in defending freedom from it's most virulent enimies.

An Intelligent Twist

If ever their was a book that fully embodied Eisenstein's infamous quote that:
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Then this is that book. For it takes the cliche "chosen one" trope and somewhat turns it on it's head in an intelligent way; which when combined with what has to be one of the best though out magical universes in fiction, makes for a truly great story.

Starsight continues Brandon Sanderson's excellent narrative structure of subverting expectations without creating a jumbled mess of a story. Additionally, the book also continues it's flawless adherence to the scientific and engineering rules of the universe in which it presides; making this one of my favorite fictional Sci-fi universes to listen too.

While not the epic listen that Ready Player One was, this was a good listen in the same general genre none the less and well worth getting.

Brilliant Sci-fi

In good writing there is a balance between making a story too predictable that it fails to be interesting vs. being too chaotic too to be choherant. In good Sci-fi there is also an added layer of consistency required when explaining the new technology of the alternate world, since things just "magically" working is not an allowable plot point.

My current favorite Sci-fi book, Skyward is an excellently written story that strikes the ideal balance of subverting expectations without creating a jumbled mess of a narrative; while also maintaining flawless adherence to the scientific and engineering rules of the universe in which it presides. It wash a great listen and I look forward to more books in the series.

A great read for anyone looking for actual solutions to our Poltical Divisiveness problems, though Beck makes a couple points in long roundabout ways that make for a bit of tedious listening.

Lost 6 pounds already, permanently!

Imagine being able travel to Las Vegas, eat at the best buffets all day, and then come home without having permanently gained any weight.
For me that is not something I have to imagine, as using the advice of this book I not only didn't gain any weight after a few days of Vegas excess I actually lost a pound or two, which has since turned into 6 pounds permanently lost in less than a month since I got this book.

Losing weight is actually a fairly straightforward process if you correctly understand how the bodie's hormones work to regulate body weight automatically and more importantly understand the multi factorial nature of chronic obesity. The Obesity Code is not only the best explanation of these factors but is also the most comprehensive guide to understanding why just about everything you have been told about diet and exercise in regards to weight management is completely wrong.
