Have too much self-control? Society says self-control is a virtue. Yet, successfully managing emotions, getting the job done, and getting accolades for being detail-oriented, planful, driven, etc., haven't led to relationship and bedroom success!

Paradigm Shift
Revisado: 04-21-25
Wonderfully written with excellent information. Dr. Tom offers a concise, well-structured guide to understanding ourselves, our relationships with partners, and to sex. I appreciate that agency is left to the reader and the emphasis on the importance of “doing” rather than relying on the information alone to do the work. Highly recommend even if your personality does not match exactly with the subtitle of this book. I match the subtitle and my partner matches less so. Nonetheless, this book helped her to understand my internal framework and how that shows up in our relationship.

Historia
Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.

Fun and Twisted
Revisado: 01-15-25
This is a super fun read for those who enjoy this genre. For those who don’t like extreme horror or “splatterpunk”, I would not recommend this.
Playground reads like if the Losers Club from “It” were terrorized by Jigsaw instead of Pennywise. The story moves quickly and kept me engaged the entire time.
I really enjoy the author’s writing style and the narrator does well in capturing the feeling of what’s happening. The way she voices the children, in particular, I thought was outstanding.
This is my first read of an Aron Beauregard story and will certainly not be my last.

Historia
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

Great all around
Revisado: 08-24-24
This is not a particularly original story but the writing and performance make it an entirely unique read. It’s rare for a book to actually make me laugh out loud but the dark humor in this book really tickled me. The story is very entertaining and grabbed me right away despite my previous comment. Highly recommend.

Great content; awful narration
Revisado: 08-09-24
Like the title says, the content is great if a bit repetitive between the books but the narration made this very difficult to get through.
I was certain that this was a text to speech reading for the first few hours until I heard background noises and he stumbled over some words. The cadence of his speech and the lifeless reading could easily pass for “AI”.
That said, this book has a ton of good information in it. I would consider this an overview of or orientation to Lean and Six Sigma rather than something that will equip you to effectively use any of the tools and methods.
It’s also pretty light on project management content. There’s a short “book” (i.e., section) on agile/scrum and it’s referenced throughout the text afterward. Again, more of an overview/orientation than a course.
Good for those unfamiliar with these concepts. Unlikely to be helpful if you already do this work.
