Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

There are not enough words to describe the perfection of this masterpiece. I’ve listened to it 4 times! I’ve read/listened to every book by this author. Marin Ireland’s narration is flawless and so compelling.

Historia
In 1986, Paul Newman and his closest friend, screenwriter Stewart Stern, began an extraordinary project. Stuart was to compile an oral history, to have Newman’s family and friends and those who worked closely with him, talk about the actor’s life. And then Newman would work with Stewart and give his side of the story. The only stipulation was that anyone who spoke on the record had to be completely honest. The result is The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man—revelatory and introspective, personal and analytical, loving and tender in places, always complex and profound.

Honest and raw!
Revisado: 11-18-22
I was a child growing up watching Paul Newman in movies. I’m now 61. As I listened, some parts felt as though my own father was describing his childhood, and the absence/distance of his father. It made some difficult things in my own childhood make sense. The alcoholism was the relatable theme. Paul Newman purposely created an honest and real portrayal of his life. It was a very enjoyable story.

Historia
Some twins communicate in a secret language all their own. For Whiskey and Charlie Ferns, the two-way alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, delta) whispered back and forth over their crackly walkie-talkies is the best they can do. But as the brothers grow up, they grow apart. Whiskey is everything Charlie is not - bold, daring, carefree - and Charlie blames his brother for always stealing the limelight, always striving ahead while seeming to push Charlie back.

Another job well done!
Revisado: 01-11-20
Gary Paulsen never fails to keep me captivated, and this one didn’t disappoint! This is a story about a teenager that is tasked with fulfilling his uncle’s wish to spread his ashes in the Pacific Ocean. The balance of trials and triumphs are equally compelling on his quest to fulfill the promise. Their shared love of the “Frog,” combined with the admiration and respect he has for his uncle, drives him to do whatever it takes to survive the sometimes treacherous journey.
I loved it! I’ve read every single Paulsen book written, and this is as good as I anticipated.

Historia
After everything that the citizens of Beartown have gone through, they are struck yet another blow when they learn that their beloved local hockey team will soon be disbanded. What makes it worse is the obvious satisfaction that all the former Beartown players, who now play for a rival team in Hed, take in that fact. Amidst the mounting tension between the two rivals, a surprising newcomer is handpicked to be Beartown's new hockey coach. Soon a new team starts to take shape around Amat, the fastest player you'll ever see; Benji, the crazed lone wolf; and Vidar, a born-to-be-bad troublemaker.

Revisado: 11-19-18
This is his latest title, and I’ve read them all. I became attached to each character in Beartown, and Backman brought them all full circle in this novel. The narration was perfect, and helped me connect so personally to this story. Backman’s writing style is fresh and clear, each word chosen with a purpose. Please write another story...soon!!

Historia
Beyond Tim Tebow's exploits as a Heisman-winning football player, he is widely known and respected for his exemplary character and personal excellence, which have made him a role model for millions. When Tim interacts with the public, he often encounters people who feel "stuck" - unable to take action on matters ranging from daily life to pursuing lifelong dreams. In response, Tim often identifies a crippling fear or lack of courage, to which he advises: "Now is the time to take some risks, to quiet the voices of defeat, to step forward and make a mark, because this is the day."

Worth every minute!
Revisado: 08-16-18
I’ve read the reviews prior to giving my own. The cynicism of some of the comments merely demonstrate a lack connection to this historical time, or an unwillingness to see the story for what it is: a recollection of events and experiences with possibly some dramatic embellishments for author’s purpose. Regardless, what this story gives us is one man’s account of his experiences during this horrific time in the history of war. Embellished or not, it is raw, powerfully detailed, and beautifully unraveled. I loved it. I’m an English teacher of middle schoolers, and we teach a unit on the Holocaust. This story adds to the collection of writings for generations to come as a reminder of the atrocities that occurred under Hitler’s regime. Well done Mr. Sullivan.
